Happy Birthday, Steve!! (Week 9)

Steve leaves the early 20’s today and turns 24! Don’t forgot to wish him a happy birthday!

Week 9!
*The baby is now called a fetus (Latin for “little one”)
*Brain waves can now be detected (wow.)
*An inch long = the size of a grape! (I love these comparisons every week.)
*0.07 ounces
*Eyes fully formed, but eyelids fused shut
*Now that the basic physiology is in place, the baby is ready for “rapid weight gain” — oh YAY.
*Capable of more involved movements: turning its head, opening its mouth, and kicking (but I won’t feel that for at least 2 more months)
*Hands and feet becoming more distinguishable – losing their webbed appearance

THE MOM:
*The nauseating hormones hit their peak this week — thank god. That means I should be feeling better next week. But it also means this week will be really bad. It’s like being sick (stay-home-from-work sick) constantly, but still having to work and be alert (and friendly).
*Mood swings. Everything I read says I should be experiencing crazy mood swings – elated one moment, terrified or depressed the next, but I really have been fine! I think I cry more easily at anything, but I also cried pretty easily before pregnancy.. soo… no big deal.
*Weight gain: not a lot. But I retain water and my waist is “thickening” – I do notice my shirts fit a little tighter, but my pants still fit well (thank goodness).
*My uterus is the size of a tennis ball. The area under my navel is firmer as the uterus extends upwards.
*Apparently I should be finding a birthing class to sign up for right now because they fill up fast. Hmm.. where to go for that?

Okkk, I took another picture. I’ll be honest, I tried to take the best angle possible, but it’s very clear that I’m… wider? fatter?? Whatever you want to call it. I don’t yet look pregnant, I just look bigger.
