I had a terrible day yesterday.. I kept making food to eat and then once it was sitting in front of me, I couldn’t eat it at all. I thought these days of being nauseous were behind me!!! It is quite frustrating to feel hungry AND nauseous at the SAME TIME. Steve was begging me to finally make something I could actually eat because all the food got sent over to him for him to eat when I couldn’t. He was stuffed – haha! I was finally able to eat Ramen noodles, imagine that. OH, and bacon and snickers ice cream bars were ok too.
As you know, I have lost weight so far in this pregnancy… so many people say to me, “oh I wish I had that problem! haha!” No, you don’t. 1) don’t forget you’d have to be pregnant to have this “problem.” 2) it comes with terrible nausea 3) it’s extremely frustrating and 4) i just feel guilty all the time, thinking my baby is starving. The only 2 things that are constantly on my mind: i’m pregnant.. and.. what can i eat now?
And comments that I look tiny and not pregnant at all only make me worry more. I know you’re all trying to be nice (thank you), but I’d rather hear that I look pregnant, healthy, etc.
ANYWAY, rant over. The reason for this post was that I just googled some info about weight gain. I SHOULD be gaining a pound a week, says everything. So far, I’ve lost about 5 pounds total, but have gained belly, baby and boobs.
I read about women who gained ONLY 3 – 10 pounds during their entire pregnancy. And gave birth to very healthy babies.
The baby is going to take what it needs from me, so as long as the baby is growing at a normal rate (and my doctor said I am measuring the perfect size for how far along I am), then everything is ok. Every woman is different, some gain 10 lb, some gain 40.
BUT.. then I read things like this: “Inadequate weight gain has been associated with an increased risk for intrauterine growth retardation, low birthweight, and perinatal mortality.” Inadequate weight gain is defined as less than 15 pounds.
I still have 22 weeks to go though… weigh gain can come later.

My point (I think): I need to stop worrying. I AM eating and I’m eating well. Although, I could/should trade in my grapes and crackers for milkshakes.
Comments are very appreciated, please!

I wouldn’t worry so much about the weight gain. Everyone is different, and if you look for it, there is enough information out there to scare you to death and make you want to spend the whole pregnancy curled up in a ball! Remember, you are doing the best you can. This will become your mantra into parenthood!
Do you suffer from nausea after you make the food, or does it develop as you prepare it? For the life of me, I couldn’t stand the smell of ANY food preparation with my second pregnancy. I found out who my true friends were, they would prepare food and I would walk in the door just as it was being placed on the table. I must have lost 15 pounds the first trimester, but nobody was worried, I had more to “spare.” My weight rallied after that, and I probably gained 35 pounds before Grace was born! Remember, weight gain is always greater in the last month or two. Until your doctor tells you to worry, don’t stress! Do what you can, take the vitamins, and enjoy the pregnancy as much as you can…

Thanks so much for the comment! It definitely helps
I usually can’t stand the smell of food prep either – which makes it hard to eat when my wonderful husband does the cooking!! But yesterday I was ready to eat it all up to the point of taking the first bite. It has just been very hard to find foods I can eat.. I’m hungry, but nothing ever sounds good! I guess I need to let go of my previous eating habits and tell myself it’s OK to eat a whole box of cookies if that’s all I can handle at the moment
Glad to hear you lost weight too at the beginning and it all turned out well! My doctor basically gave me a lecture about eating more, which made me feel terrible, but she did say everything is okay. I’m getting a new doctor (because of our move to IL in 2 weeks) and am hoping she’s a bit more compassionate/understanding about it!

Get off Google and listen to your doc. Medical help online does more harm than good because people read things and automatically apply their symptoms to it. What a doctor does is take stock of your symptoms and make recommendations (doctors don’t know everything and aren’t always right, contrary to what most people think). Your doctor has the knowledge of your history, lifestyle and personal observations.
I’m sorry the doc’s bedside manner sucked. I went through 3 docs in Missouri until I found one that didn’t talk to me like I was 5 years old. You’re right to want a new doc and I hope the next one is better.
Milkshakes are good, but I’d stick to ones made with real milk and ice cream (ie not McDonalds). Good for you that Beef a Roo makes theirs naturally. If food prep bothers you, maybe freeze meals so you can reheat them quickly?
