Week 19: Half way to full term!

Week 38 of pregnancy is considered “full term.” I’m hoping to make it more toward week 40, but.… this week 19 today marks the half way point to a full term baby! Steve and I freaked out about that a little bit last night. We were thinking about all we need to do before this baby is here and how fast this first half has flown by!!! December is going to be here in no time! Ahhhhhhh. (but “ahhh” in a good way :) )

The Baby:

week 19*This poor baby looks so cramped and uncomfortable in there!
*Important sensory development: areas in the brain are being specialized for smell, touch, taste, hearing and vision
*Hair may be sprouting from the scalp (this made me laugh because I am certain our baby has no hair, hahaha)
*6 inches long, weighing 8.5 ounces! That seems huge to me..
*Size of a large tomato
*Baby is listening.. we should be reading, talking and singing to it!
*Arms and legs are finally in proportion to the rest of the body
*May have a preference already for right or left hand
*MY feelings of stress or alarm are being communicated to the baby – making it more active during those times. I should do yoga to relax.

The Mom:

week 19 me*Aches and pains: Yes – sharp lower abdominal pain.. changing position usually helps, but it does hurt!
*Heartburn, indigestion, constipation: No, no, and no. (thank you!)
*Back ache: YES. and it’s harder to get up. Massage, anyone?
*Don’t overdo it because rapid growth burdens your heart, lungs and kidneys. — I do notice it being harder to breath sometimes. I have to slow down and take a deep breath.
*Other symptoms: still craving ramen (and only ramen). I’m on day 12 and it’s still the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten (gross, I know).
*Movement: still not feeling the baby move very often, which is frustrating – I just want a good KICK!

I took another picture where I kind of bent or hunched over. I wanted toweek 19 bellyshow you that about 2 inches below my boobs, my belly creases and pops out. This “pop” happened about a week ago. I think the picture makes the belly look gross, haha, so sorry if it bothers you too :)

ULTRASOUND in 4 days!!! I can hardly stand it. So jealous of every other pregnant woman who gets early ultrasounds.. this will be my first one! And we’ll be finding out the sex!

Gifts!

An adorable BeddieBye zip-around blanket from Rachel. She also gave me (or really, gave Steve!) some erba organics mommy-to-be massage oil and nipple care balm. Thanks Rach!

The baby is going to be a world traveler! From Kristin, who spent the summer touring around Europe, we got an awesome baby bib from Italy. Love it, thanks Kristin!

Yesterday was my last day at work and my wonderful coworker, Nichole, gave me twoitaly bib onesies. I forgot them in the car so no pictures yet, but one is yellow with a duck and the other is brown with a peace sign – soo cute! And so thoughtful :) Thanks Nichole!

BTW, I changed my twitter name from emilydickey to babydickey .. hope it doesn’t confuse too many!

Also.. I added the “tell-a-friend” button on the right sidebar. By clicking it, you can choose a specific post and export/save it. WordPress.com doesn’t allow plug-ins to be added, so I couldn’t put it at the bottom of each post (fail). Hope it works for everyone over there instead!

STATE’S TAX WEB SITE SWAMPED ON LAST DAY.(News)(Statistical Data Included)

Daily News (Los Angeles, CA) April 16, 2003 Byline: Rachel Uranga Staff Writer Last-minute tax filers trying to download California tax forms overwhelmed the state’s Web site Tuesday, blocking access for hours as procrastinators facing a midnight deadline fumed. site california tax forms

Despite the online shutdowns, the state won’t be waiving any penalties for those who owe tax and file late.

There is no ‘my dog ate my tax return, I couldn’t download the form,”’ said Denise Azimi, spokeswoman for the California Franchise Tax Board.

Forms were available at regional tax offices as well as print shops and some libraries, she said. Those awaiting refunds would not face penalties, she said.

On Monday the site had 2.7 million visitors, with 2.2 million of them downloading forms without a glitch. That’s more than double the amount of visitors during the same time last year.

Tuesday, the Web site hit its capacity.

Today is knocking our socks off,” Azimi said, unable to give an estimate of how many Californians used the site but noting that an estimated 5 million taxpayers had yet to file by Tuesday.

Missing the filing deadline can result in penalties ranging from 5 percent to 25 percent of your tax liability, tax experts said.

Victor Omelczenko, a spokesman for the Internal Revenue Service in Los Angeles, said the IRS did not face similar problems.

Anxious taxpayers wandered into the Van Nuys branch of the Los Angeles Public Library on Tuesday hoping to download California’s standard tax form along with a slew of other forms from the stalled site, said senior librarian Lupe Canales. website california tax forms

It had been working fine for the past two weeks and then it went out,” Canales said.

Explaining the situation to a few of the patrons, Canales said some became frustrated.

We gave them the Web site so they could try later,” she said. “I am sorry to say that some don’t have computers so I don’t know what they are going to do.” The “e-services” address, through which Californians can pay taxes online, operated without problems Tuesday, Azima said. Only downloading tax forms gave online users difficulty, she said.

We will be looking at this, why we have this bubble and what we can do,” Azimi said.

Already, the board has doubled its traffic capacity.
