Mom's Survival Guide by Redbook: review (& giveaway)

As a member of The Product Review Place, I was sent Redbook’s Mom’s Survival Guide: save time, money and your sanity. I couldn’t put it down as soon as I got it! I was just going to skim through it until I had more time, but there’s a fun quiz at the start of the book… of course I had to take it… and then I was hooked. (BTW, I’m an “ESPN” mom according to the quiz… Steve is an “LOL mom” haha!)

This book doesn’t just give you lots of tips and suggestions, but reading it makes you feel like you’re not alone. “Hey! My kid does that too!” or “I feel like that all the time!” While the book is geared toward childhood and Ryan is only 4 months old, I loved reading it – you all know how I love to read and prepare! :) “In Mom’s Survival Guide moms will find real wisdom from experts, time-tested tips from everyday moms, and helpful stories submitted by Redbook readers.”

This book helps with things like: the importance of “me time,” what to do when your child lies, dealing with “puppy love,” preparing for back-to-school, handling a public temper tantrum, tips for doing homework and standing up to a bully’s mom, eating better, and medicine myths. Just to name a FEW!

Ryan’s face TOTALLY says, “.…mom needs this book because of me.… (pout, pout)…”

This would be an AWESOME mother’s day gift… I’m definitely keeping it in mind for my future mama friends. Maybe even a gift to give the mom at the kid’s 1st birthday or baby shower.

You can buy it on Amazon for $11.53 (which is a deal because the book cover says $16.95!): Mom’s Survival Guide: Save Time, Money, and Your Sanity

Also, they were kind enough to donate a copy of this book to my fundraiser for Cora’s Story. I’m raising money for this non-profit organization that is dedicated to raising awareness about CHD (congenital heart defects). To learn more about Cora and to donate and see all the prizes you can win (including this book), go here: Cora’s Story Fundraising Giveaway.

Are Groupon vouchers a waste of money? DEBATE.(Letters)

Daily Mail (London) September 9, 2011 I CAN’T believe complaints about the location or expiry date of Groupon vouchers (Mail). They have maps for every event and say when they end.

I’ve sailed across to the Isle of Wight on a racing yacht for [pounds sterling]75 and driven an Aston Martin, Porsche and Audi R8 for [pounds sterling]125. I’ve booked my son’s entire wedding for [pounds sterling]2,500 — and I checked the venue first. see here groupon san diego

I think Groupon — in which you register with the website then receive news of local discount deals — is great, but people need to read what they’re buying and be a bit tolerant if bargains don’t run quite smoothly.

NIGEL TAPPIN, Chigwell, Essex.

MY SON gave us a Groupon voucher to celebrate our anniversary in July and we presented it at the Windrose Restaurant in the Marina Complex here in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

The voucher ‘entitled’ us to a meal to the value of [pounds sterling]40.90 and we were given a menu with a choice of three starters, three main courses and a glass of wine.

As one starter was shellfish (which we don’t eat) we had a choice of only two, selecting soup and caesar salad.

Of the three main courses we were again restricted to a choice of two because of our likes/dislikes.

If we didn’t want a starter and preferred a dessert, we had to pay the extra, and coffee or tea wasn’t included. Feeling that my son had paid over the odds, I questioned the value of the offer: [pounds sterling]40.90 was hardly right for a bowl of soup, a caesar salad, two fish and chips with mushy peas and two small glasses of wine.

The manageress was very pleasant and said although the quoted value was [pounds sterling]40.90, my son would have paid less. She said the restaurant simply supplied its menu details and did what Groupon instructed. She said the restaurant was trying to get out of the Groupon deal. grouponsandiego.net groupon san diego

I told her we wouldn’t be looking for any more Groupon deals and that we would also tell family members to avoid them in future.
