Pregnancy "scare"

Yep, I bought a preggo test yesterday… actually, I bought a 3-pack. They say breastfeeding is the best birth control (for the first 6 months, anyway), but I’ve heard plenty of stories saying otherwise. And it’s not like I’m on a normal cycle (or any cycle at all for that matter) so how would I know if I was pregnant?! And this is why I thought I was.…

~I had to leave work early on Tuesday because of a migraine. I tried to work through it, but ended up nauseous, hot and a bit dizzy.
~As soon as I got in my car to leave I started crying… emotional?!
~Arguing with the hubby – Wednesday morning, to be exact… moody!
~Starting to break out a little bit (like I did at the start of the last pregnancy)
~Pain at my cesarean incision site – from pregnancy bloat?!
~I recently lost 5 pounds (same as 1st pregnancy)

Steve was at work and I ran to Walgreens to buy the tests. When I got home I put Ryan to bed and I was shaking as I was opening the box. I kept thinking there’s no freakin’ way I’m pregnant! And a million things ran through my head.… I’m not ready yet! I need to find a new OB and a midwife AND a doula! I need to start Hypnobabies! I need to know more about VBACS! Is it even safe enough to attempt a VBAC this soon after a cesarean?! I’M NOT READY!

Similar thoughts went to my husband earlier in the day when we decided I should test.… “If I’m pregnant right now, it’s all your fault AND I’M NEVER SLEEPING WITH YOU AGAIN!”

Then I took the test.

I just stared at it the entire 2 minute wait. The single line appeared within seconds. I kept staring. And I kept staring. Well past the 2 minutes, I’m sure. For some reason I WANTED that second line to show up… I was actually a LITTLE BIT disappointed that it didn’t. HOW CRAZY IS THAT? because I’M NOT READY! but still.….… it, of course, would have been something wonderful. And the shocker? My husband was a bit disappointed too. Just call us The Duggar’s! (knock on wood). So what about all my symptoms?

~Migraine: I used to get them a lot (because of my birth control) and they’d make me throw up sometimes. So I guess it was just another one of those terrible things.
~Crying: I felt sick! and I was tired! Normal.
~Arguing with the hubby: hellllooooo, we have a 4 month old and we don’t get any sleep.
~Breaking out: it’s summer time and I’m stressed. Plus I don’t have the luxury anymore of the pregnant-woman glow.
~Pain at my incision: normal. Nerves are forming again, the area isn’t so numb anymore.
~Losing 5 pounds: I’ll thank breastfeeding and carrying around a 16 pound human being all day. But… who cares why, PASS THE ICE CREAM!

Now, seriously.….. I’m going to get some ice cream.

POST EXCHANGES PLAN CHANGES FOR 2011.

States News Service February 1, 2011 DALLAS — The following information was released by the U.S. Army:

By AAFES Public Affairs The Army and Air Force Exchange Service is planning a host of initiatives for the upcoming year to include more concept shops, beauty bars and PowerZone electronics. go to web site vera bradley coupon code

The popularity of concept shops continues to grow as 42 were opened on Army and Air Force installations in 2010. Based on the success of shops such as Izod, Michael Kors, Lauren Ralph Lauren, Vera Bradley and Pink by Victoria’s Secret’s, more than 20 additional concept shops are scheduled to open this year, giving military shoppers even more options to exercise their Exchange benefit.

On the health and beauty side, the Exchange plans to continue the expansion of its “Beauty Bar” concept. Featuring onsite makeup artists and skin care consultants, Beauty Bars include innovative brands of prestige cosmetics to meet the needs of young women ages 18 – 28 and women with darker skin tones.

With 23 locations opened since its 2009 launch, an additional 16 Beauty Bars are coming to Army and Air Force Exchanges in 2011. The men’s “Grooming Bar,” which features shaving and skin-care products, will also continue expanding this year after the successful roll out of six locations in 2010.

The Exchange is expanding its toning/shape-up shoe category as well. AAFES added Fila and Reebok last year to bring the total to four brands offered in the category. Nike will be added to the stock assortment in 2011 along with toning flip-flops and sandals.

The Exchange is helping shoppers complete their look as it updates and adds new, trendy fashion jewelry. New brands are being added to include popping seasonal colors as well as “must haves” such as hoop earrings, stretch rings with a variety of bold colors and y-neck necklaces with fringes.

The days of the simple electronics counter are no more as the Exchange’s PowerZones continue to evolve. 2011 will see the introduction and expansion of new products and consumer technologies to include iPads, computer tablets, netbooks, eReaders and their accessories. web site vera bradley coupon code

Finally, two successful initiatives that help military shoppers save through social media sites will enjoy high visibility in 2011. Shoppers who follow the Exchange’s Facebook page at “AAFES, Your Military BX/PX” and those who have opted-in to the Mobile Marketing program by texting “EXCHANGE” to 95613 will continue to receive coupons through those venues.

For 2011, coupons on diapers, toiletries, household cleaning products, paper products and snacks are just a few of the offers coming to users’ “walls” and phones. The Price Cut program offers frequently purchased items offered at a lower price for a limited time. While a majority of these products include health and beauty care, more snacking items and candies will be added in 2011.

  • :) I totally get how you could be both happy and disappointed by the neg test. But I think it’s good. It’ll leave more time for you to be with and nurse your babe. Many moms’ milk goes away once they’re pregnant again. Have you gotten your cycle back yet? I relied on breastfeeding for bc for 2.5 years b/c it took that long to get it back. Crazy, yes?

  • That is crazy! But what I heard is that you should really only rely on it while you’re EXCLUSIVELY breastfeeding.. so basically the first 6 months. After that, you’re risking it. But I don’t really know! I agree, it’s a good thing I’m not pregnant right now :)

  • Pregnancy scares are the worst because while the timing for adding another addition is off, a part of you gets excited because you’ll be bringing another new life into this world. You start to think of all the great times you share with your current little one and get excited about being able to relive those moments with your next child.

  • I know what you mean. I took tons of tests while I was breastfeeding because I had the same symptoms I did when I was pregnant. Everything is different and new and it is easy to mix all the emotions together.

    Hugs! Definitely been there :)

  • I’m sure many can relate to feeling relieved and disappointed at the same time. I hope to have at least a year with my little boy before we try for another. Breastfeeding should help. My mom laughs at me for planning for the next one when this one isn’t even born yet :)

Nothing wrong with planning ahead!! Originally I wanted to try for #2 this fall so they’d be the same distance apart that I am with my brother… but I’m thinking that’s too soon. I want more time with Ryan alone and I want to be REALLY prepared for my next pregnancy (homebirth). So now we’re thinking NEXT fall (2011)… let’s see if we make it that far, haha.

  • I’ve felt the same way recently. I bought a pack of 50 pregnancy test strips on amazon because I’m too cheap to constantly buy them from the drug store. (Only $11 lol.) Anyway, are you using the pill too? A lot of women, my sister included, have EBF’ed and became pregnant before 6 months. She’s having her 4th this summer…unplanned. So I wouldn’t rely on it as a form of birth control.

No I’m not using a pill too.… before getting pregnant I tried like 5 different pills and the nuva ring… none of them worked for me. I had pretty bad side effects until my doctor finally said she thought I’d have a stroke and wouldn’t prescribe me anymore. So we started “family planning” and using a calendar to count days… it worked for just about a year before we got pregnant with Ryan (unplanned) — and we knew we were risking it the night he was conceived, so I think the method worked pretty well for us..
