The Bubble Club! Ryan’s first swim class

Ryan LOVES the water so of course I signed him up for a mommy-and-me type swim class called the Bubble Club. It’s for ages 6 months to 3 years… beginners in the water. It’s at a nearby outdoor pool, so I made sure to choose the course in mid-July so it’d be warm enough and I picked the time slot 6:10-6:40 because I knew he’d be awake then. Right before bedtime–perfect to get him good and tired!

Today was the first class. (Yesterday’s was canceled due to rain). There were 7 other kids signed up. Either both mom & dad were there with the kid, or moms came together as friends. Me? I went solo (I don’t have any mom friends). WHICH was a big reason I wanted to sign up for this class–to meet mom friends!

It didn’t work (yet). Ryan is the youngest in the class, by far. The next youngest was about 1.5 years old and most were around 2. Because it was the first day, we didn’t do anything… just let our kids get used to the water. Ryan loved it and splashed and kicked away. I tried to float on over to some parents, say hi, and ask Ryan who that cute little girl was. But I never got a response from any of the parents (weird?)…………………… the only person to say anything to me was the course instructor. Okay, I’m not that forward of a person, but I did try. It didn’t help that no one else seemed to be there solo, like me. I even had the fun of climbing up and down the pool ladder with my baby in one arm–why doesn’t anyone offer to help? (Mental note to always pay attention to things like that and help out other people when I can).

But overall, the important person here is Ryan. And he did enjoy himself. We spent some time in the main pool and some time in the kiddie pool–where he could stand and jump and he tried to chase after all the pool toys, I could  barely hang on to him! Haha. It was awesome mama-baby quality time together 🙂 We go back tomorrow!! It’s every night for 2 weeks.

These pictures aren’t from the class, but just of how much he enjoys the water 🙂

  • Hm. What biatches. JK they probably didn’t even realize you were there alone and looking for friends. Sometimes I’m like that because I can be shy around people I don’t know well and I feel stupid and then later on in the day I think back and I’m like “OMG I BET THEY THINK I’M SUCH A B! I WAS SO MEAN” and I agonize forever. Sooooo wait for the next class. If they’re still mean, then they’re bitches.

Austin LOOOOVES the water too!!! Where did you get that float? I got him a float but it was way to not-baby and I gave it to my friend that has a 1.5yo and it’s prefect for him. But I’d like to have one he can sit in! TIA!

hahaha, yea we’ll see tonight if they’re bitches. only one person there kept looking at me–a guy who was there with his wife and 2 kids. yep. I flashed my wedding ring a few times.

which float? the blue/green one was at toys-r-us… i love it because the innermost tube part is thin and then there’s mesh – so he can reach his arms and splash the water! but if he puts his head down, he can get a mouthful of water… it hasn’t been too bad though. The yellow one I’m not sure, my mom bought that one! Probably walmart or something?

Hi – I read your blog daily. Just wanted to mention that I don’t have any mom-friends either. All of my friends are in their 30’s or 40’s and have no desire to have children. Since we have been pregnant, (Due next Saturday!) my husband and I have noticed a tapering off of fun invites to go out. We decided that we would eventually meet other friends that had babies, like us. So I tried to meet other moms at a prenatal yoga class as well our childbirth class. No such luck. It seems like they all had plenty of friends and didn’t need another. I was actually really disappointed in the yoga class…it was so damn clicky!
Give the swim class another shot…and if you don’t strike up a conversation with someone, at least you can’t say you didn’t try. And if all else fails, we can be friends once my son is born. I’m 31 and live in Peoria. LOL! 🙂

P/s – I forgot to mention that my son will be a Cubs fan as well and already has his first outfit as well as matching hat. I can’t believe my Cardinals fan husband is allowing our son to follow in my love for the Cubbies!

Congrats on your baby!!! It is tough to go through such a huge life change without friends going through the same thing, but hopefully you find some mama friends! That is GREAT that he’ll be a cubbies fan… if he were going to be a cards fan I’d say we can’t be friends, haha 😉
