I’m a breastfeeding (& pumping) mama {$340 Simplisse Breast Pump giveaway!}

Ryan is 10.5 months old and is still breastfed. My original goal was always to make it to one year, but now that it’s *so close* to being here, I can’t imagine stopping yet. I work outside the home part-time (5 days a week) and need to pump while I’m away to keep up my supply and so Ryan can have milk while I’m gone. Recently I was lucky enough to receive the brand new double electric breast pump from Simplisse!

Ah, I don’t even know where to start! First, you better check out my review of the manual pump by Simplisse (overall: LOVED it). Needless to say, I had really high expectations for this electric pump. They use a whole new compression technology with super-soft breast cups that make the experience entirely different from any other pump. You *must* try it out to believe it, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

So let’s start with some pros:

*The “feel.” I put that in quotes because there practically is no feel… when I use my old pump, I feel like a cow. It tugs, it pulls, it pushes against hard plastic. With the Simplisse pump, you barely feel a thing and at first I thought it wasn’t even working!

*The super soft cups. HUGE improvement from the plastic ones I used to use. They’re actually comfortable and they fit well:

*The pump isn’t just an “on” and “off” switch, you get to totally customize it. There’s one dial for flow and one dial for speed and you can adjust them at any time, as needed. I will say that it took a little getting used to at the start, but it’s absolutely a pro to have this option.

*THE BAG. It’s CUTE! It looks like a purse. Granted, a very large purse, haha–but at least it’s cute! I hated lugging my old pump bag around. People would be like, “what IS that?” Just take a look for yourself at this one:

*The whole kit. You don’t get just the pump with this… you also get: a wet storage bag, a microfiber cooler pack, 2 ice gel packs (that also work great on your sore upper “breastfeeding back” lol), 4 breastmilk collection bottles, some breast pads, storage bags, a manual and an instructional DVD! Simplisse went all out!

*The pump part comes out of the bag. Don’t need to travel? You don’t need to carry this bag around your house (unless you want to ;)) because the small pump piece comes out!! It doesn’t come out of the bag in my old pump so I was pretty excited about this. And of course, it’s also cute 😉

This picture is from pumping at my desk at work! So yes, I have the whole bag, but I wanted to show you a picture of the cute pump piece that you can remove 🙂

The directions kind of warn you that the pump may take some getting used to. Because it uses a different technology than other pumps you may have used, your body has to adjust. When I first used it, I got one ounce (and was expecting around 4-5). Just don’t give up!! If you pump once a day, try pumping 2-3 times a day, until you adjust. You will get there, don’t get discouraged because it will be worth it. Simplisse also has amazing customer service if you have questions or want to make sure you’re doing everything correctly. I’m now able to get a normal amount of milk with this pump–all while NOT feeling like a COW 🙂

Cons? I have a couple, but nothing major. First, it’s loud. And that’s only because I’m comparing it to my old pump… so it’s loudER, comparatively. I work in an office with multiple cubicles so sometimes I just need to be aware of who else is in there and what they’re doing. I try not to pump if they’re having a meeting. Otherwise, no biggie.

The second thing–you have to plug it in to an outlet. I almost pumped in my car the other day, but realized there’s no option for this baby to run on batteries. It would probably eat them alive, so I understand that it doesn’t have that capability, but I’m use to my old pump that can be plugged in OR run on batteries.

Overall–the pros outweigh the cons, without a doubt. The comfort and ease you get with this pump make it well worth the money. It’s an investment, but it’s an important one. If you breastfeed for a year, it’s less than $1 a day. If you nurse past that, like I will, it’s even cheaper 😉

In case you were wondering, it’s baby approved 😉
