Stolen from the lovely Joanna at Baby Gator’s Den
1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
Raised a baby into a little boy! Also started teaching my own classes.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I’m pretty sure I didn’t make any… Ryan was 5 days old and I was glued to the glider for quite some time, not thinking about anything but breastfeeding! I do have some for this year… mainly time management. Less blog, more family (so it’s a good thing I’m on my blog right now, filling out this senseless survey, right?)
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Lots of mama friends online! And a few IRL, but we’re not that close or they live too far away
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Phew, no, not in 2010.
5. What countries did you visit?
None. Made it out of town a couple times though to Wisc and NYC.
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More family time… and my abs back. Oh, and a midwife for my next pregnancy.
7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Easy ones: May 17 – our 2yr wedding anniv (and my grandpa’s birthday). December 27th – Ryan turned ONE!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Breastfeeding for an entire year (and beyond!), starting an ICAN chapter where I live and successfully completing my first semester teaching.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Getting knocked out of our football survivor league the 2nd week because I forgot to make my pick
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
C-section recovery is about it, I think
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Nikon D5000. It’s Baby #2.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Steve’s, for sure. He was amazing after my c-section, doing everything around the house and supporting me through breastfeeding and listening to me cry about my birth probably every day. And he’s just about the best dad ever – he’s amazing with Ryan.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Wow, those are some strong words. I don’t think anyone did! Anyone IRL, anyway.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Starbucks? Ok really, most goes to the house and to Ryan!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Everything Ryan did – sitting, crawling, walking, waving, kissing… so much happens the first year!! Also, getting sponsored for BlogHer10.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Black Eyed Peas — Meet Me Halfway. It’s Ryan’s favorite song
As a newborn, it’d instantly make him stop crying – every time! And as he got older and learned how to dance, it was a sure bet!
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier
b) thinner or fatter? Thinner
c) richer or poorer? Richer
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Got out of the house more with Ryan when he was younger
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Less being depressed about my c-section
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Christmas Eve with my family… Steve and I exchanged our presents that night, just the 2 of us… and Christmas day brunch at my parents’ house again and then the rest of the day with Steve’s family!
21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
Absolutely, with my lil man Ryan.
22. What was your favorite TV program?
We don’t have cable and I never watch TV. Sometimes I watch online though… Dexter and Gossip Girl
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Hate is a strong word, I don’t hate anyone (but to answer the question… no)
24. What was the best book you read?
Where The Wild Things Are?
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Oh wow I don’t know if I discovered anyone new in 2010. Just listening to a lot of Black Eyed Peas, Death Cab, Kings of Leon… oh, and Raffi!
26. What did you want and get?
my Nikon! and a house (we moved out of our 1 bedroom apartment in February)
27. What did you want and not get?
Our OWN house (we rent this one)… an iphone4 (but will be getting one of those soon, this year!)
28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Ha, I don’t think we went to one single movie in the theaters in 2010? We don’t get out much. I can’t even answer this question.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 25 on April 10th. I went out to dinner with friends (and brought Ryan!) and then they all came over to our house afterwards to celebrate.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I’d have to say it was pretty great just the way it was. Not being depressed and upset about the c-section would have probably lessened the amount of tears in 2010, but that’s okay.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Whatever fits. At the start of 2010, I was 1 – 2 sizes larger than pre-pregnancy and bought all new clothes. Then I lost the weight.… verrrrry slowly.… so those clothes were too big, but everything else was still too small. More new clothes. By the end of 2010, I was smaller than pre-pregnancy! So some of my 2009 clothes (from before getting pregnant) didn’t even fit anymore. There was ZERO fashion in 2010.
32. What kept you sane?
Steve, my mom, Steve’s mom. Chances to get out with friends.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Ron Paul.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
What didn’t?!‘alskjf
35. Who did you miss?
My grandpa that passed away Dec 2009 right before Ryan was born. Friends we left behind in Iowa. Friends that moved away.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
My ICAN chapter co-leader, Christine! I couldn’t have done it without her.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
It is what it is.
Breathe.
Patience is a virtue.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I’m going old school here with my favorite, Offspring (“Nitro”). This sums up how I’ve changed as a person after having a son and after going through the trauma of my c-section… and the healing over the course of the year.
The official view of the world has changed
In a whole new way
Ain’t gonna waste this life
There’s no tomorrow — you ain’t gonna live it for me
