Taste of Chicago Festival

Ya know, I’ve lived just outside of Chicago all my life (okay, except the ~4 years I was in Iowa for school) and I’ve never been to the Taste of Chicago! As you know, we recently moved a bit more south, closer to my husband’s job, and that puts us a little closer to Chicago and I’ve been venturing out that way more often.

WHERE: Grant Park, Chicago

DATES: July 11th – 15th

TIMES: 11am – 9pm

ADMISSION: free (but you do need to buy tickets for food and drinks)

Even thought I’ve never been here, I do have some favorite places in Chicago. I can’t wait until Ryan and Rebecca are really old enough for a fun sightseeing trip! There’s the Sears Tower (that has been renamed Willis Tower, but I refuse to call it that lol)–and you have to go to the top and look out! And the newer Millennium Park with the big “bean!”

Okay, okay, there are some cool sites and fancy building and pretty architecture, but…. if we’re talking about Chicago here, I can’t leave out my all-time favorite sight… MICHIGAN AVENUE. Hellllooooo, shopping! I have great memories of visiting downtown with my mom and friends to walk up and down the “Magnificent Mile,” shop at the Watertower, and see the annual Christmas decorations in the windows of Macy’s!

Michigan Avenue is sooo pretty all lit up, especially at Christmas time with the holiday lights everywhere <3 Love! I don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t enjoy the sights in Chicago and I’m so excited to share them with my kids.

I heard that Transitions Optical is partnering with Vision Works for FREE vision screenings at the Taste of Chicago this year. My vision is pretty good… it was always 20/20, but when I was in college, I was having trouble seeing the front of the classrooms. I went to an eye doctor for the first time and was told I’m slightly near-sighted and was prescribed glasses. Thankfully I don’t need them all the time and my eyes aren’t that bad. My husband wears glasses all the time. What’s the most important reason to have healthy vision, for me? Seeing my children! Playing with them everyday, reading them books, taking them to see the world! I want them to see and experience everything I have (and more).

What are your favorite sights or what’s a sight you’d love to see? If you’ve been to Chicago, where do you like to visit?

*If you’re going to Taste of Chicago this week, make sure you find the Transition Optical booth for your free exam! And find their facebook page here:
