EASY Oreo Cream Cheese Truffles

These things are like heaven. In my mouth. I’m drooling just looking at my pictures. I first encountered these when I was in graduate school (WHERE had they been all my life?!) when a fellow grad student brought them in for a department party.

Omggggggggoodness, I demanded to know the recipe. And ya know what? These are SO EASY to make that she didn’t even want to tell me, haha. Besides tasting amazing, they look fancy–your party guests will think you slaved over them πŸ™‚

INGREDIENTS:Β

1 block (8 oz) of cream cheese
1 package of Oreo cookies
2 (8 oz) packages of semi-sweet baking chocolate (melted)*

*If you don’t have the semi-sweet baking squares, you can use the semi-sweet chocolate chips instead. That’s what I use and you’ll need about 1.5 bags (12oz). I like to have extra chocolate on hand just in case because I almost always find I need to melt a little more…. if you only have bittersweet chocolate, give it a taste first, but I’m sure that’s fine to use, too.

DIRECTIONS:

*TIP: these are super easy to make regardless, but the process will be even faster if you have a food processor you can use for the Oreos!

1. Set aside a handful (5-8?) of Oreo cookies to use later–they will be sprinkled on the tops of your finished truffles
2. Crush ALL the rest of the Oreo cookies and put in a large bowl
3. Add your cream cheese and mix until blended. I take my rings off and get my hands dirty–it is the easiest way to mix this mess together!
4. Roll the mixture into ~1 inch balls
5. Dip the balls in chocolate–this is the “hardest” part. I throw the ball in, roll it around so it’s covered, and use a fork (or two) to get it back out. I also end up needing to reheat the chocolate a couple times throughout the whole process–maybe I’m just slow, haha, but warm melty chocolate is much easier to deal with.
6. Place the covered balls on wax paper and sprinkle the tops with the other crushed oreo pieces (while the chocolate is still warm and melty!). Store in the fridge until they’re firm… usually about an hour? But I of course eat one (or 10) right away…

DONE!

Make sure you keep them stored in the fridge in a closed container. AndΒ tryΒ not to eat all of them at once πŸ˜‰
