There’s nothing better than spending time outdoors. As soon as the weather was (FINALLY!) nice enough, we headed out and now spend part of each day in the sunshine. Ahhh, love that vitamin D… and it does wonders for the kids’ nap times π
And with that sunshine comes sunburn in this family! We’re Norwegian and Irish–awesome mix for bright white skin, haha. I don’t tan, I turn red, and I’d rather not see that happen to my kids because they have the same sensitive skin and fair complexion. Sunscreen is aΒ mustΒ and it’s really important to us to useΒ safe sunscreens. I’ve said it here before: what goes ON your skin goes IN your body and we all know toxins affect children much more than adults becuase of their skin to body ratio.
I was recently sent two bottles of natural sunscreen from Goddess Garden. They make mineral sunscreens that are full of non-toxic certified organic ingredients, vitamins, and antioxidants. I always use the EWG Skin Deep cosmetic database when trying new product because they have a ranking system based on toxicity and possible side effects of ingredients (0-2 is the best, we avoid anything 3 and up). The sunscreens from Goddess Garden rank between 1 and 2 and the EWG even included them on their 2012 best sunscreen list!
They have an everyday natural sunscreen, kids natural sunscreen, baby natural sunscreen, and facial natural sunscreen. I chose the Kids and the Baby for Ryan and Rebecca… and yea, I use it too π I LOVE the kids spray bottle, it makes it so easy to catch my toddler as he runs around. The Baby sunscreen works great, too. They aren’t greasy, which is awesome, and they’re water resistant.
The sunscreens are SPF 30 and if you’re thinking that’s not high enough, I’ve read that 30 is all you need because anything higher than that just means more chemicals have been added. EEK. All you have to do is re-apply as needed. I just used this in FL where I spent some time on the beach. I’m VERY pleased with the effectiveness and I only turned a little pink on my chest–I’m so used to burning much more.
My kids spent those days with Grandma and they did their own share of playing out in the sun with Goddess Garden’s natural sunscreen. My mom says: “It had a wonderful smell, the texture was smooth and creamy, and it was easily applied.” And so far, so good π Another favorite point is that it starts working immediately because it’s made with minerals instead of chemicals.

I would choose kids because I have 3, 4 and 5 year old sons and I also prefer kids sunscreen for myself because i find it works better on my fair sensitive skin π
