Staying cool this summer with NewAir

I hate winter. I hate the cold and being stuck inside… and all season I just DREAM of warm weather. It’s funny how that works because now that summer is here, I’m wishing it would cool down, haha. We’re still stuck inside some days because it’s just so hot and humid out! We live in a two-story and we do have central air, but our second story doesn’t seem to cool down enough. Just walking up the stairs you can immediately feel a temperature difference. We sleep with our ceiling fans on and no blankets. We have an office up there but never want to use it because it’s not as comfortable as our main floor…

Now, we have a solution! I am working with NewAir and they kindly sent us a portable air conditioner… sooo exciting! We got the NewAir AC-12000E-Portable Air Conditioner and it covers up to 425 square feet so it’s in our master bedroom upstairs. Perfect! This model is rated one of the top portable air conditioner units.

It was SO easy to install. I kept waiting for my husband to do it and when that took too long, I went at it myself and was amazed that it seriously took only minutes. It’s all put together with just a few stray pieces (the hoses, window attachment, and remote). I put in the carbon filter, attached the hose, and it was ready to go! There are a lot of setting options, including a timer and sleep mode, fan or auto, and even an ionizer. The remote control is super handy.

This portable air conditioner has 4 wheels, making it really easy to move. The install is so simple, you could easily move this throughout your house as you  need it in different rooms. We have a porch that doesn’t get very cool either, so if we’re having guests over and hanging out in there, we can just move this AC in! Why not just throw a fan in there? Because this portable air conditioner will cool the entire room (to whatever temperature you want), not just blow out a stream of air in one spot. It’s also eco-friendly with a R410A refrigerant that provides cooler air while using less energy.

It has an auto-evaporative feature that gives an improved cooling effect with less condensation build-up. It can operate continuously by recycling collected moisture. There are a few filters within this portable air conditioner and they’re easily cleaned by just shaking them off or using water if needed. At the bottom, in the back, there’s a small outlet to release the water tank. If it gets full while in use, the AC will stop, beep, and have a blinking “water full” light. Simply remove the cover and rubber stopper, empty the water tank, and you’re all set again. If you’re using this portable AC near a drain, it does come with a tube you can connect here instead for continuous drainage.

A few other features seen above: you can adjust the air vents in the front, there’s a handy compartment on the back for cord storage, and the exhaust hose is easily expands. The portable air conditioner needs to be about 14″ away from anything else… the hose extends from 12″ to 59″ to fit your space (but it’s more efficient the shorter it is kept). I easily bent it upward to reach out our window (just try to make sure there are no kinks or sharp bends in your hose or moist air can accumulate).

I’ve seen concerns about the noise level of a portable air conditioner. Honestly, I’m not bothered by this one. I mean, it works like a fan and I expect it to make noise like one. There are two setting: high and low. The high one is a bit louder, of course. I like to use the low setting because it is quieter and I think it still works effectively. Overall, we’re thrilled with our new portable air conditioner and the relief it provides on our second floor!

You can get this same model on Amazon for $458.95. Make sure you find NewAir on facebook and twitter–they have a lot of other great products including wine coolers and ice cream makers!

Oh! I wish I had one for our 2nd floor but I guess it won’t work with our type of window! Sounds wonderful!!!!

  • We too have a portable AC, but it’s not as nice as this one! They’re great for those side opening windows, which is what we have.

Yea, our windows open up and down and we made this work! My husband just had to cut the window extension piece to fit.

I’ve been thinking about getting one of these since I don’t have central air, but I’m really unclear about the vent going out the window – how does that work? does something extend out the window? would I have to remove the window screen?

Ah yes – let me add a photo of our window – the exhaust host I have pictured is what goes out the window. It comes with something you stick in the window so that you can close your window onto it. It would work with windows that slide open side-to-side (measure how tall they are though and look at how long the window extension kit is for the exhaust hose) and it works it typical windows that go up and down (sash? windows). However, our windows are fairly narrow so while we did need the window extension piece, it was too long and we had to cut it. Not a big deal though, it’s like plastic and my husband used his saw. This will make way more sense if I add a photo – will work on that 😉

  • I usually set mine to sleep mode. It’s like running it for 2 hours just for energy consumption issues.
