When I was a kid, I remember my mom had a little laminator for mini-sized projects. She was a teacher and I think maybe she used it for name tags. I used to draw pictures and laminate them… I used a lot as bookmarks! Now that I have two little ones of my own, I’m thrilled to have a laminator–and one that takes full-sized sheets of paper for more projects. I used to print or write so many things for Ryan and they could only be used once… we are having a blast with our new Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator! I may have gotten carried away with finding things to print and laminate ๐
It’s pretty fail-proof… you turn it on and the default is the cold lamination, which is for self-adhesive stuff. If you want hot lamination, you just select the thickness of your laminator pouch. I have letter pouches and photo pouches, both 3mil. It takes a few minutes to heat up and then the power light will turn green and beep a few times.
I printed a couple of tracing images so Ryan can practice over and over. The laminated sheets just wipe clean. Center your paper in the pouch and feed it into the laminator with the sealed end first. The laminator has guiding marks to help you feed it through and then the pouch just feeds through and you grab it from the other side. It takes seconds!
The finished pouch comes out a little bit warm, but not hot–I had no problems picking it up immediately. Set it to cool before using, but it doesn’t take long. The photo above shows another sheet I laminated for Ryan… it’s a fun calendar. You fill in the day of the week, the month, and the date. ย The little squares I printed out with the days of the week and the months of the year were also laminated… I just cut them out first, placed them in the pouch (far enough apart that they each had their own space to be sealed in), and then cut them out individually once they were laminated! It seals right up to the edge of your paper so you can cut fairly close and everything still stays laminated.
Ryan is having so much fun with his new activities! Shhh, don’t tell him he’s learning ๐ See that 18 on the calendar? He wrote that himself! Proud mama ๐ In the upper right photo you can also see some numbers I laminated and cut out. There’s also a plus sign and a minus sign because we’re starting to work on math! Ryan’s really interested in all of it so I can’t wait to see what more fun things I can come up with. He starts preschool in the fall so this is a wonderful way to get ready! And no worries if his 1-year-old sister grabs our materials… they’re now childproof ๐
The laminator is amazing for parents and would also be great for teachers! If I go back to work (teaching human biology), I have tons of ideas for my classroom, even at the college level! Here are some great features of the Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator:
- HeatGuardโข Technology: Double-walled insulation keeps heat inside so the laminator is comfortable to touch, making it safe for homes and classrooms with children!
- Advanced Temperature Control: Hot and cold laminating capabilities.
- Release Lever: For easy removal or re-centering of stalled pouches to prevent jams. It’s located on the back of the laminator.
From July 15 through September 30th, Fellowes is hosting a “Celebration of Superstar Teachers” contest! You can nominate a special teacher on facebook and they could win a Fellowes classroom prize pack including a laminator!

You can buy your own Fellowes Laminator and accessory pouches at Staples or Staples.comย for a SRP of $159.99. When Emelia gets bigger and starts to color, Id love to laminate her drawings and use them as fun placemats for the dining room table. She can make us new ones as she gets older and we can save them for her or display them at her high school graduation open house (muah ha ha ha)!

I’d like to laminate a grocery list so I can just wipe and make a new one every week. Oh and recipes would be nice to laminate too so they don’t get all icky.
