Do your kids love to play video games, but you worry about too much screen time and not enough physical activity? Looking for fun indoor ideas to stay warm this winter? The new LeapTV by LeapFrog is definitely the must-have holiday wish list toy for kids! We recently had friends over to try it out and it was a BIG hit, we all love it, and it’s now on their wish lists!
LeapTV from LeapFrog gets kids into the action while teaching core skills across reading, mathematics, science and problem solving. Designed for kids 3-8, the system uses a motion-sensing camera and controller that fits small hands. Audio instruction makes it simple for even the youngest kids to play, solo or with a friend!
Our son turns 5 next month and he played the game once before he could do it all on his own—turning it on, navigating the settings, and choosing a game. It doesn’t require reading and I LOVE that it’s made specifically for young kids. You don’t have to worry about any inappropriate images or sounds appearing.
With 9 games at launch, there will be 100+ titles available by the end of the year! We’ve tried out two so far: LeapFrog Sports and LeapFrog Dance & Learn. We can’t wait to get more—they’re on our holiday wish lists!
The controller is really easy for little hands to use and uses motion sensors for game play (in classic control mode or pointer play mode). The camera is also super cool—some games don’t require the controller and you just play on screen via the camera (body motion mode). It can mount easily on the top of your TV, but our TV is too high to get our kids in view so we just set the camera on our TV stand and it’s perfect!
The Dance & Learn game is fun… who isn’t up for a little dance party?! It always lifts the mood 😉 The Sports game is definitely a favorite in this house so far. You can do a competition and go through a little bit of each of the 9 sports or you can “quick play” and choose what you want to play.
The other kids that came over to play were 3. They definitely jumped in to play, too, and got the hang of it. It keeps them moving, laughing, and having tons of fun! Even I got down on the floor and played some games, too. You can have multiple players and purchase extra controllers, too, but for the certain games you don’t need a controller everyone can still play along!
I highly recommend this as a family Christmas present this year! I can imagine it will top kids’ wish lists and the games are a great gift idea for the grandparents or friends. Check it out at LeapFrog! MSRP $149.99, ages 3-8. You can also find LeapFrog on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
