Summers at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry (giveaway)

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry.

I remember visiting the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry all the time as a kid… it was like the go-to field trip in school and I’m not even sure how many years my classes hopped on a bus for a day exploring. I haven’t been in YEARS… and it’s on our summer to-do list this year now that we

Summer fun: we’ve been busy!

Oh my, I cannot believe it’s July. WHERE did this summer go?! I made a huge list of things I wanted to do with the kids this summer and I’ve barely done any of them… maybe hiking the state park an hour away and riding the riverboat were a bit too ambitious lol. But there’s still time! And anyway, we’ve been keeping really busy and have had so much fun. My posts about this stuff have been too few and far between so I’m attempting to catch up right now with a massive photo

how do you stay safe in the summer sun?

We’re pretty fair skinned in my family… okay, Steve tans a LOT better than I do, but he’s still Scandinavian, like me, so he doesn’t get too carried away. I don’t even know what the word “tan” means, I just like to go straight to “red,” if anything, because that lobster look is so hot. Right???

So it makes me worry about my babies being out in the sun! I mean, have you seen Ryan’s completely perfect skin and fair complexion?

My little cutie pie 🙂 Anyway,

101 days of summer play

Do you get outside every day with your kids? Some days I don’t, but I really try–especially because Ryan LOVES being outside and it lets him get out some energy. Did you know that kids age 8 to 18 spend more than 7.5 hours EACH DAY watching TV, texting, or playing video games. Seven and a half hours!!! That sounds crazy! At Ryan’s age (2.5 yrs), it’s really easy to limit his TV time, but I’ll admit he probably spends too much time on the iPad. Banana Boat Sunscreen Natural Reflect

the best place in Rockford for kids

We have the best children’s museum (the Discovery Center) and Ryan loves it there. We easily wipe out 2 hours there and Ryan is exhausted just in time for his nap when we leave–perfect 😉 This place is 2 stories and is for all ages. Ryan likes to explore all it, but of course there are areas for school-aged kids for experiments and things that he doesn’t get yet (he just likes the buttons).

Upstairs there’s a tot-spot for kids under 6 and it’s awesome. It has 2 huge water

Our trip to the gardens

We have really pretty Japanese gardens here and they had a “donation day” recently, which means you don’t have to pay admission (but it’s nice to donate). I know it’s not exactly a place for kids, but thought I’d give it a try. There are miles of walking paths with lots of fish and ducks for Ryan to watch. I wanted to try to snap some great pictures, too.

Within 5 minutes of being there, Ryan is off the path and nearly IN the pond trying to catch

Ryan goes to the zoo!

Steve’s parents have a lakehouse in WI that’s near Madison. A couple of weeks ago we finally drove into the city to take Ryan to the free zoo… for being free, it’s really nice! It was super hot and Ryan was getting close to his nap time so he was kind of quiet, but he made a few OOOOO and AHHHH sounds at certain animals! It was soooo cute.
