It’s 2012! It’s the year of the baby!!! I can no longer say, “ah, the baby isn’t coming till next year.” And yea, that’s a little bit scary!
Baby girl weighs just over 4 pounds (think: pineapple) and is 17 inches long from head to toe. She’s losing her wrinkly old-lady-looking skin and filling out with fat.
A lot of babies are head down at this point and I meet with our midwife this Keep Reading Pregnancy: week 33
Heard of “VBAC,” but don’t really know what it is? Interested in having a VBAC, but need more information to make your decision? There’s too much fear around VBACs (vaginal birth after cesarean) circulating out there and slight risks (serious, but slight) are blown out of proportion. Want a repeat c-section? That’s okay, too, I just want to be sure women are making an informed decision, not one based on scare tactics.

When reading about reasons for a homebirth, money is always listed. Homebirth is much cheaper than a hospital birth. But it’s not for us… and regardless, it wouldn’t be one of our reasons anyway. I think you all know (if you’ve been reading my blog for awhile) what our reasons are.

We interviewed (and loved) a midwife last night for our upcoming VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) homebirth. When we chose an OB for our last pregnancy, we didn’t really interview anyone – just took one based on a referral from a friend because she had openings available. Huge mistake.
I prepared a big list of questions for our midwife interview.. these were collected from ICAN, online forums, suggestions from twitter/facebook, and birth-y books (Birthing From Within, Thinking Woman’s Guide to Keep Reading Interviewing a homebirth midwife
I have yet to find a midwife for this pregnancy and birth. The one I was interested in won’t accept VBAC women if they haven’t had a prior vaginal birth. With CPMs being illegal in IL and most CNMs working alongside OBs at hospitals only (oh, and no birthing centers), my options are very limited. I’m discouraged, but figure I still have plenty of time to seek one out, even if it means going into the Chicago area.
