Doctor Appointment: group B strep

My week 36 doctor appointment was on Friday. I met with the 3rd and final doctor at the office… figuring I’ll get whichever one is on call during labor so I should at least meet each one! Again, I LOVED her. She was really nice, explained things and didn’t make me feel rushed.

But this coming week I go back to seeing my original OB because she’s who I’m “assigned” to. I know I could request a change, but at this point I don’t even care. I’m 36 weeks, baby could come at any time, and there’s only 1/3 of a chance she’ll deliver for me anyway.

Weight: 143.2 — it has gone back up, good!

Blood pressure: 102/60

Fundal height: 34 cm (on the small side, but still ok)

Baby’s heart: 130 bpm

Dilation and effacement? I have no idea. I figured since she was going in for the group B strep test she’d check out my cervix too, but she didn’t (the test was just a simple swab). When I asked if she was going to check she said she could if I REALLLLLLY wanted her to, but they don’t normally until week 38 because they don’t want to start anything going… I guess I can wait! (Only time in my life, I’m sure, that I would WANT an internal exam at the OB office haha)

Group B Strep: it’s a bacterial infection found in the vagina. It does no harm to me, but can pass to the baby during delivery and cause (sometimes fatal) problems. The test is a simple swab and about 15-30% of healthy women carry group B strep. If the test comes back negative, no worries. If the test is positive, I’ll need an IV of antibiotics during labor to prevent the passing of it to the baby… no biggie!

That’s it.. not too exciting, I had no questions. Next appointment is on Wednesday (a little early because they’re closed Thurs and Fri)!
