Wait, what’s my son’s name?

When I was at the photographer’s studio placing our order, it was brought to my attention that my son apparently has a nickname. Ryan was starting to fuss so I was talking to him to help calm him. The lady came over and said, “Oh, that’s a cute nickname! Buddy or Bud!” And I was like…. what?????

Yep, I constantly call Ryan “Bud” or “Buddy” without realizing it. Hang on, Bud, we’re almost done. Whatcha doin’ Buddy? Hey Bud, are you hungry?

Not to mention all the other nicknames he has… Did Stinky just poop? Are you Stinky Pants? Ohhh Mr. Cranky must be tired!

Am I the only one that rarely uses their kid’s own name?! Now I’m afraid he won’t get used to being called Ryan… he’s going to think his name is Mr. Stinky Pants! Or Bud… after my friend’s late (and great) dog, haha. Poor Buddy. I mean…. Poor Ryan!

  • We hardly ever call our kids by name. We should’ve thought twice about the double G thing: Gavin and Gage. I always get them mixed up. We call Gavin our oldest Bubba (even Gage calls him that) and Gage is Monkey, or hubby and Gavin sometimes call him Mr. Monkidees. I have NO idea where that came from but they’re used to it!

Our daughter goes by ‘dele, ‘deli, ‘deli bean, ‘deli bean Josephine, ‘deli jo, turkey, bean, doodle, doodle berry, biscuit, snickerdoodle, and those are just before lunch! I didn’t realize it until my mother mentioned that she had never known a child with so many nicknames. Can’t wait to see what her brother will end up being called when he’s born in a few more weeks. I’m sure he’ll have just as many nicknames. He already goes by Speedy and the Speedster.

  • Lol, he’ll be fine. They always know their name some how. I called my daughter so many names “boo” “baby boo” “booches” (inside joke) as an infant. She ALWAYS responded to Makenna or Kenna no matter what though.

So don’t worry, Ryan wont think you ruined his life by giving him the name Stinky Pants.

  • Haha, oh yes, Bacon! I suppose Steve does use that once in awhile. Also… R.T., R.Tyler (created by Steve’s cousin Tyler, haha), R.Tizzle (created by Steve’s younger brother).. I still call him Baby like I did when I was preggo… or lil’ man. 🙂

My mom started calling Cade, “Cader Bug” from the very early days of his life, and now most of the time I just call him “Bug.” If it’s a “serious situation” it’s mostly “Cade McCale!!” so he’ll definitely know his full name because, lately, there have been a lot of “serious situations” around here! haha

  • Ha ha! I never thought of this. I call my cats SO many different nicknames, I can only imagine I’ll probably do the same with my daughter!

We had the same issue with our son. We started referring to him as a fussy Gus when he was, well, fussy. And then it just snowballed from there. It was Gus this, Gus that. My husband would come home and ask “How’s Gus today?” and then it hit us that if people heard us talking they would think his name was Gus! It’s not even close by the way.

  • I started calling my son Piglet during one of his nurs-a-thons (think growth spurt, he was attached for like 2 days!) and it stuck, plus we have always been 95-99th percentile in height and weight. It stuck. Even the ladies at his daycare sometimes slip and call him Piglet.
I promise that I will stop…soon….before #2 gets here for sure!

  • Haha! Just today I realized that my son is going to think his name is Killibutt (me) or mister (husband.) He has a zillion nicknames (most ending in -butt, -pants, or -saur,) but he usually gets called those two things.
