Ryan’s Playlist: beautiful creatures (giveaway)

**CLOSED**
**WINNERS: random.org #5 and # 37, congrats to Becca and Francine! Winners have been emailed. Thanks to all who entered and thanks again to Beautiful Creatures!**

I’ve mentioned before that we have a playlist just for Ryan–sounds he seems to take to. Someday I plan on writing about all of the songs on here, but right now I want to tell you about Beautiful Creatures. Most of the songs on Ryan’s playlist are not kid-friendly… hey, not our fault–it’s the songs he likes–songs with a beat. Yes, we play Raffi and sing it to him, but it doesn’t hold his attention as long. Beautiful Creatures, however, is children’s music and we love it! Maybe I’m partial because I’ve always loved Africa and it has always been my dream to travel there. But it does have more of a beat for Ryan and it’s LOTS of fun for us to sing to him–and fun to move to.

Beautiful Creatures was formed in S. Africa in 2004 by Alan Glass, Ed Jordan and Paul Choritz–they felt there was a need for ‘parent friendly’ kid’s music (definitely!). Since then there have been seven Beautiful Creatures albums:

Beautiful Creatures, More Beautiful Creatures, and Even More Beautiful Creatures–educational songs about African animals

Beautiful Me–about emotional development (sibling rivalry, anger management, self-confidence and diversity)

Beautiful Bedtime–songs that take children through their bedtime routine (winding down, bathing, brushing teeth, pjs and storytime)

Beautiful Creatures of the Sea–songs about sea creatures and conservation

Beautiful Lullabies–down tempo songs to help baby sleep

I’d love to have the Beautiful Bedtime CD–that one sounds like it’d be fun for Ryan when he’s older! (and the winding down part of it would be especially enjoyable for me, haha). Here’s the track list for the Beautiful Creatures CD (the one I was able to review):

Imvubu the happiest hippo
Lucas the lazy lion
Mafutha
Zee Bee Dee Bee Dee
Wallace the wondrous warthog (King of the pigs)
Lorenzo the luckiest lizard
Down comes the rain
Beautiful creatures
The night song
African lullaby

I think my favorite is Imvubu the happiest hippo. Lorenzo has kind of a cool, jazzy sound to it. It seems like as the CD goes on, the songs become slower and softer… which I really like. Maybe it’ll help your child relax at the end of the day or playtime. Some of the more kiddish songs I think will be SO fun to sing WITH Ryan when he’s older. He’s going to love it, I know it! “Grunt, grunt, oinkitty oinkitty oink!” and “boom boom boom, to the left! boom boom boom, to the right! wiggle your tail in the moonlight!” 🙂

You can listen to samples of all the songs and you can order it (internationally) or buy it on itunes for $9.90.
