Take my c-section Scar Away!

It’s a badge of honor and courage. It marks our baby’s entry into this world. For that, I’m extremely proud of my c-section scar. At the same time, however, it’s a constant reminder of my failed “birth.” Not only that, but now that the nerves they cut through are starting to heal, it’s always itchy and twinges with pain. Some areas are still numb to the touch, but others are quite uncomfortable. I was starting to become annoyed with underwear rubbing against it because it hurt! I considered going commando, but then there’s the issue of pants causing the same problem… and I think all of society will agree, I need to wear pants.

Then I was offered the chance to review the new ScarAway for c-sections. What good timing–I jumped at the opportunity! They’re silicone scar sheets that “flattens, softens and fades scars from c-sections and other surgeries.” I LOVE THEM.

  • Specially sized (1.5 x 7″) to accommodate most c-section scars
  • Direct pressure, non-greasy, and won’t stick to or stain clothes (unlike creams & ointments)
  • Ultra-thin, flexible, breathable, durable
  • Patented Silon technology (previously only available through hospitals, burn centers and plastic surgery offices)
  • Non-invasive, drug-free, at-home scar care

Why I really love it? It definitely stops the irritation from underwear or pants, helps relieve the itching almost completely, is very durable, and it’s soft! The back is a silky-soft fabric (and it’s opaque so it hides your scar too).

As for its durability… the instructions say to use one strip for 2 weeks. You’re supposed to wear it at least 12 hours a day, take it off and wash it with soap and water once a day (helps it stay sticky) and NOT wear it in the shower (mainly to prevent the strips from losing their stickiness). Well… I wear it all day (and night) AND wear it in the shower quite often. Because I have mommy-brain and I forget. But I do wash it once a day and they work great, I never had any issues. The instructions even say you can use medical tape or a cohesive bandage to help keep the strip in place, but I never needed to at all. (BTW, I’m on strip number 3… week #5).

I don’t even notice it’s there. I can’t feel it, it’s really thin, and it never comes off (even when I sleep). I’ve started to notice that my scar seems softer (not such a hard bump) and lighter in color. But I don’t care nearly as much about that as I do about the twinges and the itchiness. I’ve already recommended these strips to 2 friends on twitter who complained about their underwear bothering their incision site. I really think this is a great product for c-section mamas. (Didn’t have a c-section? ScarAway makes other sized strips too, for other scars).

See some before and after scar pictures and buy them on Amazon: ScarAway C-Section Scar Treatment Strips (or any of these retailers). One box ($22.99) comes with 4 strips for a 2-month supply.

TWO lucky readers are going to win their own box of ScarAway scar sheets! These are not made for c-sections, but they can still be used on a c-section scar if you want. One strip is 1.5″ x 3″ and a box comes with 8 sheets (value of $19.99).
