I got an email from my mom today about being an awesome mom (aww, thanks mom!). It made me think of my life before Ryan…. before I was a mom…
…picking someone else’s nose was DISGUSTING. Now, I hunt those boogies down.
…I showered every day and took my time (ya know, 20 minutes) getting ready and putting on makeup. Now I’m lucky if I brush my hair and leave the house without food stains on my pants.
…I rocked out to my favorites all the time (Aerosmith, The Who, Phil Collins, DMB, The Used, LedZep, etc). Now I don’t even remember my favorites, but I know every word to the Kindermusik CD and practically sing those songs in my sleep.
…I had no freaking clue what Yo Gabba Gabba was.
…I looooved to shop for myself. Now I head straight for the baby section (clothes and toys) first.
…Sleeping in meant getting up at 10am. Now it means getting up at 8am.
…Dinner was at 8-9pm. Now it’s at 5-6pm.
…I spoke like an adult and had grown-up conversations about the world. Now I use words in daily conversation (with other adults) like byebye, birdies, potty, sleepy, milkies… and have discussions about poop and sleep and tantrums.
…I knew I wanted to breastfeed, but I thought extended breastfeeding was weird. Now Ryan is 16 months and we’re still going strong.
…I regularly got 8-10 hours of sleep a night. Now I’m really lucky if I get 6. And it’s NEVER uninterrupted.
…I took alone time, silence and freedom for granted. Now I cherish the two minutes I get to myself when I go to the bathroom.
…I could talk on the phone whenever I wanted. Now I have to plan calls during Ryan’s naps (or he’ll cry the whole time) and the problem is that during his naps, the last thing I want to do with my free time is sit on the phone.
…I never looked at a child or baby (or ANYTHING) and became so happy that it made me cry. Now I do almost every single day.
…I never knew how really freaking cool it’d be to grown an entire person inside of you and watch them grow up into an intelligent and independent human being. Amazing.
I totally agree with the talking on the phone one!!!!!! It’s impossible to have a conversation with the baby climbing on you! But when there’s finally naptime it’s like I HAVE A MILLION THINGS I’D RATHER BE DOING!!!!!
