I have a 1.5 year old. WHAT?!

It’s true! Can you Β believe it? I know some of you have been around since before Ryan was born so I know you’ll agree… it seems like I just had him, right?! I know as he gets closer to 2 years old I’ll start using months again to explain his age, but right now… he’s one and a half! He’s so old!

He’s inquisitive and curious and smart and funny and sneaky and goofy and adorable and sweet and helpful.

Ryan loves to help out. Believe me, I’m taking advantage of this while I can πŸ˜‰ “Ryan, can you close that door for me? Can you put these books away? Where are mommy’s shoes, can you go get them?” And he’s just so proud of himself for helping out and accomplishing something, it’s too cute.

He is learning more words, but still doesn’t regularly use them…. just points and whines about what he wants or where he wants to go. I guess the only times he uses words are if he gets really excited about something. If he sees Daddy when he gets home from work- DADA! Or grandpa when we get to their house – PAPA! He loves his backpack so if I tell him to go get it, it’s BA-PA! There’s BABA for bottle, KI-CA for kitty cat, BAA for bath, CA for car… and of course the handful of other words and animal noises he knows.

I know sleeping through the night doesn’t seem like an impressive feat for a 1.5 year old (meaning.. he should have been doing it long ago)… but it’s a huge deal for us. And… this past Thursday night… he did it. Let me explain… we are still c0-sleeping. Ryan goes to bed at night in his crib, but always wakes up around midnight. That’s when I just put him in our bed and we sleep till morning. It’s mainly uninterrupted, but he nurses to sleep and if he does wake up again in the middle of the night, he latches back on, I wake up for a minute, and we’re both back to sleep.

I figured we needed to break this habit before the next baby comes. I love my cuddle bug, but it’s time! So all last week, I left Ryan in his crib all night. His crib is in our bedroom at the end of our bed… so when he woke up the first night, I went to his crib and rubbed his head and held his hand. After that, I never even got out of bed, I just talked to him and sang to him from my bed until he went back to sleep. It started out with 3-4 times of waking up throughout the night… then those lessened to ~2 times and the crying got shorter… and then FINALLY on Thursday night he slept straight through until 5am. He did end up going back to sleep, but I still consider that sleeping through the night!!

He’s in size 18-24 months clothes, about 35 inches tall? and weighs around 21.6 pounds. We’re still breastfeeding, but I’m attempting to cut it down from 9485 times a day to like 5. It’s hard! I keep telling him about the baby in my belly, but maybe he’ll believe me once I actually have a belly, lol. He’s going to be the best big brother ever πŸ™‚

Ryan, you’re the cutest and smartest little person in the world and you make us smile and laugh every day! We love you to the moon and back 9,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 times! <3

soooo big!

That gives me hope. Like Ryan, Ava is 18 months (she was born 12/28!) and is still nursing and we co-sleep. We’ve been considering moving her to her crib, but to be honest she’s never slept in a separate room, and while she might be ready, I’m a bit weary of it. We’ve been talking about moving her crib into our room to make the transition, and I feel even more confident now that that’s the best idea for us.

Now we just have to wait until after vacation in three weeks!

Yea people warned us it may actually be harder to do with the crib in our room since he can wake up and see us, but I thought that was better–he could see us and hear us talking to him so he felt safe. He slept again last night straight through until 5:30am πŸ˜‰ We’re moving in a month or two so I think that’s when we’ll make the switch to him in his own room. Good luck!!

  • I totally thought your title said ’15’ instead of ‘1.5’!!!! Anyway, yes, time flies. My oldest is 9! She will be 10 in November and then, as she says, she will be in the double digits… which she is super excited about. Me… not so much.

  • He is such a sweetheart. He is going to be an excellent brother. I can tell. Its such a cliche but time flies. I love it and hate it at the same time.
