Bag it Forward: rewarding teachers

What an awesome program… Bag it Forward, sponsored by Elmer’s, helps children who get supplies for school this fall when they possibly wouldn’t be able to afford it otherwise. This summer, Elmer’s is teaming up with bloggers that are gathering school supplies to donate to children, schools and teachers.

I jumped on this bandwagon to help out and decided to buy some Elmer’s products for a teacher! My mom is an elementary school teacher and I know that every year she has a number of students that don’t have all the supplies and she needs to have extras on hand for kids to use. I headed to Walmart to search the Elmer’s supplies and see what goodies I could find.

I checked out some glitter paint pens–fun! But I thought for little elementary kids, maybe too messy. And hard to share, haha. I looked at the Elmer’s foam board too–there’s just SO much you can do and make with those. But I wanted to get items more common to use in the classroom.

I ended up with: Elmer’s Construction Paper, Elmer’s all-purpose school glue sticks and Elmer’s Dual-Tip  Markers. These are great for elementary students and definite musts in a classroom. These will be great items for the teacher I’m surprising to share with her students.

I decided to donate these to a great teacher, my mom! I wanted Ryan to surprise her so I had him decorate (scribble on, haha) a brown paper lunch bag with crayons.

And then we went over to her house to give her the goodies! Ryan was so proud!

If YOU want to join in the Bag It Forward program, you can surprise a teacher, organization or student with supplies and upload your pictures about it to: http://www.bagitforward.org

From July 25 through Sept. 1, for each “like” on the Elmer’s Facebook page, the company will donate a product to the Foundation’s national network of free stores, where teachers from disadvantaged schools can “shop” for free for school supplies. Products to be donated include a variety of glues, foam board, project supplies and pencil sharpeners. If you already like the page, they’ll make a contribution on your behalf, but you can donate again by watching a video on the Elmer’s Kids In Need Facebook tab and sharing it with your friends and family!

Elmer’s is also a Upromise partner and that every time you purchase an Elmer’s or Krazy Glue product with your registered drug or grocery card, a percentage of your purchase will be put into your Upromise account. More information can be found here – http://www.elmers.com/about/special-offers

This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Elmer’s #BagItForward #collectivebias. All opinions are my own!
