Pregnancy: 16 weeks

This kid is the size of an avocado–hey! I know what those are! 😉 That’s about 4.5 inches long (head to butt) and 3.5 ounces. But let’s not get too comfy there… it’s time for a growth spurt! In the next few weeks, this kid will double in weight and add inches to length. As if I wasn’t feeling big enough today!

the head is more erect
the ears are close to their final position
the eyes have moved closer to the front of the head
patterning on the scalp has started (but no hair yet!)
heart is pumping 25 quarts/day
we might have toenails!

Compare this belly with the tiny 16-week belly from last time! Looks more like how I was at 19 weeks (at least)!

Ahh, I feel huge. And that’s funny (sad?) because I know how HUGE I’m really going to get in no time at all. My belly just feels heavy and it’s definitely there–meaning I finally look more pregnant than fat.

The uterus is halfway between the pubic bone and the belly button.

The round ligaments that support the uterus are thickening and stretching–and I HATE that round ligament pain. When I stand up quickly, when I twist or turn, when I sneeze or cough… OUCH.

I had an appointment with our midwife on Thursday:
blood pressure: 99/62
weight: 112.2 lb (+5.2 total)
baby’s heart: 160 bpm

I’m pretty sure I can feel the baby move once in a great while–usually when I lay down–but I know it will become much more obvious in the coming weeks.

Overall, doing MUCH better. Nausea and moodiness gone. knock on wood

Only a month until the 20-week ultrasound (where we find out the sex)!
