  • Ugh, this makes me so sad, more people need to be aware of these numbers!

  • I wonder why Hispanics have better rates than whites. Whites are generally assumed to be the group that has access to the “best” healthcare. Blacks who are in poverty often just check into the emergency room, getting no prenatal care, so that explains that. But I thought Hispanics were as likely to be poor as blacks, statistically speaking, so why are they surviving better than whites?

A part of me hopes that this is because they are more likely to turn to traditional childbearing customs. Illegal immigrants in particular are unlikely to have any access to health care at all. Does this actually mean NO healthcare is better than what we have in this country?

Of course I’m speculating. Maybe Hispanics are just genetically better at having babies!

Great question. I’m going to pass it on to one of my birth groups to see some more opinions. Maybe some of these births are occurring at home and are not reported?? Maybe you are correct and they’re more likely to turn to traditional customs??

  • Awful. I hate myself for letting my Dr scare me into having a C/S so much… it’s been 7 months and I still feel guilty about it. I hope to God I can find a good Dr. next time or courage to have a Home birth with a midwife. So scary 🙁

🙁 I’m so so so sorry, Vanessa. I’m almost 2 years out from my c-section (that I was also scared into) and I still struggle with it and will probably never accept it. But I can tell you that it DOES get better. I’m now planning a homebirth for baby #2 with a great midwife. Whether you find a doctor or a midwife, just know that YOU CAN DO IT! I’m here to chat anytime. Hugs!
