New Year’s Quiz: round 2

I filled this out last January and it’s crazy to see how my responses have changed–or how some have stayed just the same! Taken from the lovely Joanna at Baby Gator’s Den–she has a linky set up if you decide to fill out and post this survey too!

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?

Bought a house!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Thanks to my blog, I know that my resolution last year was time management… I wonder at what point in the year I forgot, haha, but I think I was more successful. My goal was more family time, less blog time. I managed to do a lot with Ryan and Steve this past year and improve and grow my blog at the same time…. so I’d say that’s a win. I didn’t make any resolutions for 2012…. I guess my focus is on this baby girl coming in February and just surviving the year lol.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

My sister-in-law! To an adorable and perfect baby girl. And some close online friends <3

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Thankfully, no.

5. What countries did you visit?

None. But made it out of town to Colorado, San Diego and a few trips to Wisconsin.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?

My HBAC 😉 ((Last year this answer mentioned “a midwife for my next pregnancy.” CHECK!))

7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Easy ones: May 17th – our 3yr wedding anniv (and my grandpa’s birthday). May 27th – baby girl conceived/June 9th – positive pregnancy test. October 31st – we closed on our new (first) house! December 27th – Ryan turned TWO!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

My biggest achievement will always be Ryan. Also: breastfeeding for another year, getting my 2 manuscripts from grad school finally published in a scientific journal, buying a house, having a healthy pregnancy

9. What was your biggest failure?

My answer from last year was getting kicked out of our football survivor league in the second week… well in 2011, I got kicked out in the FIRST WEEK so I guess I’m an even bigger failure, haha.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No

11. What was the best thing you bought?

A house. A king-size bed.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Steve’s, again. He’s the best dad ever to Ryan, he works, he cooks, he cleans, he’s the best husband ever–most of the time 😉 He’s completely supportive of everything.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

No one? Trolls online, but what else is new.

14. Where did most of your money go?

I’ll repeat “Starbucks” from my answer last year, haha – but of course it was this house! And all the new stuff we bought to fill it.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Ohhh so much! Getting pregnant, having a baby girl, watching Ryan grow and start talking, our new house, Steve’s new job, attending the ICAN conference in St. Louis and meeting Pam England.

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?

I have no idea… the sesame street theme song, lol.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? Happier
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter, I’m preggo!
c) richer or poorer? I guess technically poorer because we just bought a house. But day-to-day, richer.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Hmm, I don’t know. More outdoor play time with Ryan. More work with our local ICAN chapter. More exercise.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Stressing about little things. Wasting time.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

Christmas Eve with my family… Steve and I exchanged our presents that night, just the 2 of us… and Christmas day brunch at my parents’ house again and then the rest of the day with Steve’s family! ((exact same answer as last year!))

21. Did you fall in love in 2011?

Every day.

22. What was your favorite TV program?

We don’t have cable and I never watch TV. Sometimes I watch online though… Dexter and Gossip Girl ;) <

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Hate is a strong word, I don’t hate anyone (but to answer the question… no) <

24. What was the best book you read?

the Hunger Games trilogy, Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth, Birthing from Within

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Adele. John Legend?

26. What did you want and get?

a lot… a growing family (pregnant with a baby girl), a happy family, a midwife, a new house with new furniture, personal growth

27. What did you want and not get?

nothing really, I’m pretty satisfied and easily pleased.  ok I’ll say a new iphone… at this point, waiting for the 5.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?

Ha, I don’t think we went to one single movie in the theaters in 2011? We don’t get out much. I can’t even answer this question. <

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 26 on April 10th. I spent the day driving home from the ICAN conference in St. Louis…

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

I’d have to say it was pretty great just the way it was.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?

I’m a total mom. What’s fashion? In early 2011, I was back in my pre-pregnancy clothes and maybe even newer, smaller clothes (thanks, breastfeeding?)… then I got pregnant and I’m back to yoga pants, dresses and leggings…

32. What kept you sane?

Steve, my mom, Steve’s mom. Chances to get out with friends. <

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Ina May Gaskin?

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

It’s all a mess.

35. Who did you miss?

My brother in Colorado. My grandpa that passed away Dec 2009 right before Ryan was born. Friends we left behind in Iowa. Friends that moved away. <<–same.

36. Who was the best new person you met?

NEW person? I don’t see my OLD people enough, lol.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.

It is what it is.
Breathe.
Patience is a virtue.

*yes. same as last year.*

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

Dude, I can’t. Toddler, pregnancy… my brain has turned to mush, I can’t even think and this survey took way too long already.
