HGG: camping with Kelty! {giveaway}

I love the outdoors and I love camping… I have so many great memories of camping when I was a kid! Somehow I married a man that thinks “camping” means staying in a log cabin and showering every day. HA! Camping isn’t real unless you’re in a tent with a campfire for cooking and have no running water. I can’t wait to take our kids!!!

I’m a huge fan of Kelty and their camping gear. I’ve talked about them before with their awesome kid carrier and will have another review up soon of their newest carrier.

This time, I got to review one of their really nice tents–the Vista 3.

Quite a few years ago I visited my brother in Colorado and we went camping up in the mountains… we hiked forever until we found a perfectly secluded spot in the middle of nowhere and we set up camp. When we woke up in the morning, it was snowing! I had so much fun and I love that memory. But I also remember the tent. Eh. I decided it was time to try the Colorado camping with my brother again…. with THIS tent.

I had my brother put it together, but it was really easy. Everything snaps into place (with color coding) and it’s definitely easy for one person to set it up. It includes the tent, rain fly, hubbed poles, ridge poles, cords, tent stakes, and a gear loft.

It’s made to fit 3 people, but because it’s designed to have nearly vertical walls it seems so much more spacious! My brother’s dog Guinness loved it 😉 He’s a big dog (lab) and see how much space there still is?!

The tent has two doors with closable mesh panels, one on each side–you can see them both partially open in the right photo below. There are “No-See-Um” mesh wall panels, internal storage pockets for your smaller items, noiseless zippers (really, so nice!), and a gear loft at the top. I just love the sleek look of this tent!

When you add the rain cover, you get some more space. You can see the ends of the rain cover closed on the left (below), which creates another space for you–or with one side opened up (below right). It has clear windows, fly vents, and noiseless zippers.

Living in Colorado, my brother is the camping pro and he’s outdoors all the time, in all seasons. I love the tent, the design of it, the tall walls, and the quality material. But… I had to ask my brother, the expert, for his opinion….

“It’s really nice!  You can definitely tell it’s a nice tent compared to cheap ones you can buy. The pieces and parts are quality made and sturdy. Seems to be very open and breathable too!”

So there you have it! Kelty has a lot of other tents, too, as well as all the camping gear you need–backpacks, sleeping bags, chairs, trekking poles, duffle bags, lanterns, even the “kitchen sink.” You can buy this Vista 3 tent for  $329.95–well worth the money for the quality and durability you get! Plus FREE SHIPPING on all ground orders.
