I hate winter… round 2!

Not too long ago I wrote a post about how I have a love/hate relationship with the winter season. Really, I hate it. But I try to love it for my kids because they love the snow and I do like to see them having so much fun with it!

But now I have another reason to add to my list for hating winter. The cold weather does terrible things to my skin! This year it seems especially bad, I don’t know why, but my hands are soooo dry. They’re cracked and scaly and they actually hurt. Sometimes when I put lotion on them, it burns! Eeeeek.

I’ve tried natural lotions, lotions for sensitive skin, extra moisturizing lotions for super dry skin…. nothing really seems to be helping. Do you have this problem in the winter?

I finally decided to look up some solutions online because yesterday I was out with the kids at a play place and I had to sign the receipt when I paid for tickets and again when I bought us lunch… and I was really self conscious of my dry hands. I mean, they look TERRIBLE. I can’t imagine anyone wouldn’t notice. I met some new moms at a play group, too, and thought about my scaly hands when I shook theirs. Time to fix them!

I found this article on treating dry hands with a couple of different options… it mentions wearing gloves ALL the time when it’s cold–I hardly do so I should work on that. Another idea is aloe… I’ve never tried that for dry skin, but I’m sure we have some somewhere! Some other tips I might try are warmed up olive oil, oatmeal, or a trip to the salon for a paraffin wax!

I’ll let ya know how it goes 🙂 What tricks do you use for dry skin?
