Sleep Pink: National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that a woman’s risk actually triples from her 30s to her 40s and quintuples from her 30s to her 50s? Every year in the United States 100,000 women between the ages of 45 and 64 are diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of these women are experiencing menopause at the same time–one-third of the female population in the US (35 million) have currently reached menopause.

Estroven has teamed up with the Avon Foundation for Women to support the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and raise awareness for two very important women’s issues: breast cancer and menopause. They’ve created the Sleep Pink campaign to help spread the word and I am happy to have participated!

What is Sleep Pink?

An initiative to raise awareness for both breast cancer and menopause. Host a “Sleep Pink” pajama party with some friends and for EVERY PHOTO uploaded to the Sleep Pink Facebook Page, Estroven will donate $250 to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer! Amazing, right?! You just have to upload a picture! It couldn’t be easier. AND they’ve even created a Party Page on the Sleep Pink website where you can download invites to send to your friends, get decor ideas, and find menopause-friendly drink and food recipes.

I slept pink! TWICE!

So I hosted my own Sleep Pink party with friends…. We ordered pizza, had some pink (rose) wine, and wore our pink shirts. Unfortunately some girlfriends ended up unable to make it–one had car trouble and two others were kept too late at work. But the great news is they were still made aware of the Sleep Pink campaign and can upload their own photos. Here’s my friend Tara and me Sleeping Pink!

And last week my friend Kerri hosted a Sleep Pink party that I attended! See? Everybody’s doing it! 😉 Our friend Christa partied pink with us too:

And just like that… $500 will be donated by Estroven to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer because of our two parties and two photos uploaded to their Facebook page. What a difference just one person can make–will you help?

What is the Avon Foundation for Women?

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series is a project of the Avon Foundation for Women, the largest corporate philanthropy dedicated to serving the needs of women on an international scale. Since its launch in 2003, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series has raised more than $423 million through the dedication of nearly 160,000 participating women and men from across the country!

The Walk takes place in nine cities, covering 39 miles in two days, and raises significant funds to find a cure for breast cancer and advance access to care for all. The funds support programs and services dedicated to serving breast cancer patients and their families through five areas of the breast cancer cause: awareness and education, screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services, and scientific research.

I personally know two families affected by breast cancer and obviously countless women that have gone through menopause. I’m sure you do, too! Will you host a Sleep Pink pajama party this month? Let’s raise awareness together!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Sleep Pink from the makers of Estroven. The opinions and text are all mine.
