Bright Starts Swing: Up, Up And Away!

I remember how useful it was to have a swing in our house when our babies were little and how much they loved it. Actually, one of my favorite pictures of Ryan is from when he was asleep in his swing… I went to snap a photo and at that moment he happened to smile in his sleep… and I caught it on camera. Adorable!

Bright Starts has a new Up, Up & Away Plug In Sway & Swing that we got to review for our friends that have a 4-month-old baby girl. Kinda makes me want another one 😉 Shhh, don’t tell my husband I said that!

There are a lot of wonderful features about this swing, but hands down my two favorite are 1) it’s two-directional so your baby can swing side-to-side or front-to-back and 2) you can use it with batteries(4 D, not included) OR you can plug it in! The worst is when your batteries die while your baby is having fun in the swing or, worse, sleeping! Especially if you’re out of batteries!!! It is really nice to be able to plug this swing in. And the two-directional swing? Each kid is different… Ryan loved to swing front-to-back and Rebecca loved side-to-side… so it’s definitely a plus to have either option.

Some more awesome features:

  • swing seat rotates to face left, center, or right (so baby can always see mom and dad!)
  • six speeds (to accommodate the preferences of your growing baby)
  • swing timer with 30, 45, or 60-minute options
  • seat pad and bolster are machine washable
  • fun mobile can move out of the way for easy access to baby (or rotate with the way you turn the seat)
  •  20 minutes of 8 melodies and 3 nature sounds with volume control and auto shut-off
  • seat has 2 positions, sitting and lying

I love the bright colors that are gender neutral and the little toys on the mobile are cute–the stripes and spots attract attention from the baby (and 4-month-old Stella loves to grab for them!), but I do wish they were softer. The controls are front and center, super easy to use, and even accessible and easy to understand for an older sibling–they sure do like to help! As you select a speed or timer setting it lights up so you can easily see what’s going on.

This Bright Starts swing is for ages birth and up to a 25-pound weight maximum. That is plenty and should definitely last for the use of your baby–my 21 month old hasn’t hit 25 pounds yet. It does require some assembly, but it wasn’t too bad–the hardest part was doing the straps. There is a 5-point harness and the feet of the swing are non-slip. We found it to be very sturdy–even with an older sibling pushing it around 😉

Some notes: to swing and sway this Bright Starts swing has a pretty wide base so it does take up quite a bit of room. Most full-sized swings you’ll find though do the same so just make sure you have space for it. Also, the fabric is more like you’d find in a bouncer–it’s not as soft and cozy as you might see on other swings (but this does make it easy to clean). For the price, I think it’s a good swing that gets the job done and would recommend it!

This Bright Starts Swing is available at Walmart.com and Amazon and it sells for $99.99. Make sure you find Bright Starts on twitter, facebook, pinterest, and instagram!
