AHHHHHH!Did ya hear that all the way from my house in IL? I wouldn’t be surprised… it’s my frustration with THIS WINTER. I hate the cold anyway, but this winter has been especially brutal. Days when the city basically goes on lock-down and you aren’t supposed to leave the house. Days when Ryan’s preschool is cancelled (again… and again). Days when it snows so much, we can’t get out of our driveway.
We’re all going a little stir crazy over here! Not just me, but the kids, too. Some days there just isn’t a choice–we aren’t leaving the house or stepping foot outside. Maybe we do a little dance party? Or build another fort. Find new games to play. Have a play date (thanks, Nyki!) or read stories. Here’s a fun video clip from Team Kellogg’s with great ideas on tip #22: how to cure cabin fever with your kids:
I love their ideas with Kellogg’s Raisin Bran—something we usually have on hand, too! One of my favorite things to do in the winter is bake. It’s a homebody thing and I guess it keeps me warm! Plus, my kids LOVE to help me in the kitchen. All the stirring and scooping is just so much fun! Oh, and so is dumping flour everywhere 😉 It fills our day with wonderful, quality time, and then we get to sit together and enjoy our work—YUM!
Yesterday we used our Kellogg’s Rice Krispies to make the classic Rice Krispies Treats! One of my favorites! I decided we could make Valentine’s Day treats to have even more fun (and fill up more of our day!) by cutting them into hearts and letting the kids decorate with sprinkles. Maybe too many sprinkles, haha. Every time Ryan sees a heart he says, “Aww, that means I love you, mom!” <3
What’s your favorite thing to bake with the kids to cure your cabin fever?
Don’t stop there! You get your BEST ideas when you’ve got cabin fever and you’re going a little stir crazy 😉 Ryan was asking about “those guys” on the Rice Krispies box and I told him their names… “Don’t you know Snap, Crackle, and Pop?!”
So we cut them out, taped them to sticks, and made a puppet show. I used the rest of the box as the stage and even cut out the bowl of cereal from the box as a stage prop. Ryan (4yo) got such a kick out of it, he was laughing and making up stories the whole time! “Here, mom, you be Crackle! Snap is going to the store to get more milk! Oh no, Pop is going to eat all the Rice Krispies!” Rebecca (1yo) took our cues of excitement and clapped when the puppet show got interesting, haha.

We’ve been stuck inside forever with our chilly temps here in MN! I love the cereal box puppet show. That would entertain my kids for hours! The Valentine’s treats are perfect too! Thanks for the ideas!

I love the puppet show idea! How cute! We were snowed in yesterday and today, so no cabin fever, yet. I’m actually enjoying the down time… but come tomorrow, I sure hope we can get out. 🙂
