Cause Blue Eyes
You are all that I need
Cause Blue Eyes
You’re the sweet to my mean…

Lyrics from a song by the Cary Brothers that I always sing to my two blue-eyed babies čÖé There is nothing sweeter than watching a baby sleep. No matter how rough the day has been or how tired and stressed you are… it melts away when you see your babies resting so peacefully.

Our son, Ryan, is a cuddler and loves sleeping in our bed so I get to watch him sleep all the time čśë Rebecca, however, insists on her independence and loves her own bed in her own room. I’ve used a video baby monitor before and it doesn’t just help you see your sweet one sleep, it definitely gives you peace of mind knowing you can check in on how they’re doing anytime.

I remember the days before any monitors in our house… I’d stay within earshot during nap times, I might have RUN down the driveway to get the mail quickly, and I’d peek in the room at any peep from my baby. Of course I’m still vigilant and nearby, but having a video baby monitor has been somewhat of a weight off my shouldersÔÇöa way to let me breathe a little easier.

I was recently sent the Ovia PTX┬ávideo baby monitor by Levana┬áto try out. LOVE IT. Seriously–features of a video baby monitor and then some… like, all the bells and whistles came with this baby. Levana lets you “do more knowing your child is safe!”

We put it in Rebecca’s room on top of her iPod speaker stand. We want to mount it on the wall for a little bit of a better angle. There’s so much about this video baby monitor that’s amazing, I don’t know where to start…

  • IT ROTATES. Remotely. From your controls, you can pan the camera around the room and tilt it up and down. I can literally view Rebecca’s entire room, which will come in very handle when we soon move her to a toddler bed and she can get in and out. For now, I use the tilt all the time to get better images of her when she’s standing in her crib and playing. FAVORITE feature #1.
  • Microphones both ways. Not only can you hear your baby, but you can TALK to your baby and they can hear you! This has been SO handy when I might be busy with our son when Rebecca wakes up… I can easily tell her that mommy will be right there and calm her down until I get to her. She looks at the camera and she responds, it’s the cutest ever (video below). FAVORITE feature #2 (they had to tie, I couldn’t pick!)
  • You can take photos and video. There’s an SD card included so from your screen you can snap pics or video of your little one sleeping or being silly in bed.
  • You can play songs! Visit your menu and choose from 3 little tunes to help your baby sleep–I like the lullaby.
  • You can zoom. Yep, the camera even zooms in on your baby. Can’t quite tell if your baby’s face is covered or if you can still see them breathing? Zoom in!
  • The monitor has a rechargeable battery so you can wander with it. Lasts around 5 hours with constant video/audio or more like 24 hours if you’re just turning it on to check in once in awhile (PEEP mode).
  • Volume sensor. If your handheld monitor is on mute, there are different colors that will show you how loud baby is crying (you can adjust sensitivity levels).
  • You can add cameras! Up to 4 cameras can connect to one monitor for viewing multiple rooms and children.
  • Night vision with invisible LEDs so your baby’s room will stay dark at night and you’ll still be able to see them.

The top photo above shows the menu screen where you can easily access all the features like pictures, video, songs, and settings like screen brightness. The bottom photo shows my Rebecca in her crib–it really is a nice picture! This was during the day so it was light in there, but the camera automatically senses darkness and turns on night vision. I have no problem seeing Rebecca when it’s dark in her room.

You have to watch this video of the monitor in action. I was talking to Rebecca through the camera (I simply hold down the microphone button on my end). To hear her reply, I need to let go of the button and during this video I forgot to do that–I was sitting outside her room, haha, so I could still hear her.
