Discover Boating this Summer!

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Discover Boating. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

I am really excited to announce that I am an ambassador for Discover Boating this summer! I love being on the water and have since I was a little girl. My husband grew up with a lakehouse in WI so he’s a fish out of water, too! Now that we have kids of our own, we’re thrilled to share the fun with them and have them discover boating

When I was a kid, we often took our family vacations each summer up to WI to stay in a cabin on the lake. Whether we were out on a fishing boat all day or picnicking on a pontoon with the whole family, we loved to be on the water! As I got older, I kept to the water… going boating with friends, catamaran day trips, canoeing down the river, and even kayaking the fjords of Norway. We now spend many weekends at my husband’s family lakehouse in WI! They have a boat and we cruise around the lake, spend the day swimming, and like to celebrate most summer holidays there, watching fireworks from the boat.

This weekend we would probably be at the lakehouse… enjoying Father’s Day on the boat… but a pipe burst sometime over the winter when no one was there and by the time it was discovered this spring, the damage had definitely been done. The lakehouse is totally out of commission this summer ;( We are missing it!!! We will still be heading up to the Lake this summer, just not spending the night at the beloved lakehouse!

My kids love to go boating, too! Ryan was a little scared at first, but now he’s our little captain. Did you know that 91% of Americans believe there are benefits for children to be on the water, including: getting outdoors, appreciating nature, spending quality time with family, and disconnecting from technology. All wonderful things!

Americans are taking to the water in record numbers: Of the 241.9 million adults in the US in 2013, 36.6%, or 88.5 million, participated in recreational boating at least once during 2013—one of the highest percentages on record. (Source: National Marine Manufacturers Association)

I have lots of boating memories, but one of my favorites is from a summer long ago when a group of our friends went camping for week. REAL camping—in tents on the ground without running water. One day we rented a pontoon boat, packed a cooler, and enjoyed the sunshine out on the water. We found a fairly good sized little island, pulled our boat up to it, and hopped out to explore. We love a good adventure!

Now grab a kleenex and watch this adorable video, Good Run… I love it! Life’s better with a boat 😉 Don’t forget to enter the Discover Boating Facebook Contest! Submit your best Independence Day boating photos from mid-June through early July to enter! You can also find Discover Boating on twitter, instagram, and pinterest.
