Evolution and c-sections: are larger head sizes to blame?

I’m a little behind on writing about this article, it has been saved in my inbox for over a month. On February 11th, a brilliant moronic man (is that redundant?) published an article in the LA Times: Considering Evolution and C-Sections: have procedures led to higher birth weight? will they lead to higher IQ?

I teach evolution to my Intro to Human Biology college students. We discuss natural selection… survival of the fittest! Ya know, the Darwin Awards. The idea is that, over time (a very long time), the best traits move

C-Section: His Story, Part I – Arrogant Ignorance

**My husband asked me if he could write a series of guest posts on my blog… my c-section from HIS point of view, the point of view from the dad. So this is post #1, where he starts with the prenatal care we received and how it probably should have been a sign of things to come…**

Today I’m going to start with the background…I think that like the biggest flaw that the young suffer from is arrogant ignorance, and we were no different with our birth story. Emily had communicated with me how

Birth Rape (warning: trigger story)

Part of my “journey to a VBAC” includes arming myself with knowledge. Lots and lots and lots of reading. Not just about VBACs, but also about c-sections and what questions to know to ask and what to expect in ANY situation

Choosing a VBAC care provider: OB or midwife?

I’ve decided that I’m going with a midwife. For those of you that know me, you know this wasn’t a tough decision based on my first birth experience. For those of you that don’t know about it, check out my birth story. Experiencing a vaginal birth is important to me (although I know it’s not for all women). I am aware of the risks associated with having a VBAC and with repeat c-sections (I’ll post those stats next week!) and have put plenty of thought into it. If I continue seeing OBs,

Guest Post: hopes for a VBA2C

**This is the sixth in a series of guest posts about VBACs (vaginal births after cesareans). In an attempt to have my own VBAC (hopefully next year), I’m hearing stories, trying to overcome my fear and learning as much as I can. This post comes from Allie (Baby Birthing Mama) who is hoping to one day attempt a VBA2C (vaginal birth after TWO c-sections). Please read her story below and visit her blog.**

My name is Allie and I am the mom behind The Baby Birthing Mama. Ironic really since I feel

Guest Post: upcoming VBAC attempt

**This is the fifth in a series of guest posts on VBACs (vaginal births after cesareans). In an attempt to have my own VBAC (hopefully next year), I’m hearing stories, trying to overcome my fear and learning as much as I can. This post comes from Beth (Me as a Mommy) and she has a c-section scheduled for Valentine’s Day. If all goes as planned, she’ll go into labor on her own before that and attempt a VBAC. Please read her story and her thoughts below and check out her blog.**

VBAC Guest Post: calling in the troops

**This is the fourth in a series of guest posts on VBACs (vaginal births after cesareans). In an attempt to plan for my own VBAC (hopefully next year) I’m hearing stories, I’m learning and I’m trying to overcome fear. This post is from Jill (Long Lean Mama). She also had a c-section in December of 2009 and is right on track with me on hopes for a future VBAC. Please read her story and check out her blog.**

Ever since LLB was born via c-section in December
