When Ryan was little (well, littleR), he did not like being worn. I’m not sure why… maybe because I wasn’t confident myself and he could sense that. Maybe because it wasn’t comfortable for awhile after my c-section. Anyway, he LOVES it now! Especially when he starts to get a little cranky before nap time or something, we just put him in a carrier and go about our day. My husband probably wears Ryan even more than I do <3
My husband’s favorite is the Baby Bjorn–probably because it’s less feminine? It’s also the easiest (we think) to just throw on in a hurry. But he also has a Baby K’Tan that works really well.
I have a lot… I have a pouch, 2 ring slings, and 2 wraps. I love them all and I use them all, seriously. I use each one for different reasons… or different moods.

One of my ring slings is a Solarweave fabric from Wallababy–great for summer weather AND great for wearing in the water. LOVE IT! I can shower with Ryan (he has a blast in the water), wear him in the pool, etc. And… I just wanted to let all of you know that Wallababy has tons of NEW fabrics… they’re so cute! Mine is just plain olive colored (there were only 2 solarweave color options), but look how cute some of these fabrics are!

What’s your favorite way to wear your baby?? Or your favorite wrap/sling/etc? Â Has anyone worn on your back? That looks like fun, but I think I’d be scared to try it! At what age would you suggest to start that with your kid… is Ryan too little?
I love your blog and read it all the time! 🙂 I love babywearing too and primarily use the Baby Bjorn and Baby Hawk Mei Tai. Jackson is not a fan of the car seat, so wherever we go I bring a carrier to pop in. He loves being able to look around!

I prefer the woven wraps like the Storchenweige and I recently purchased a Walter’s organic Never Fail Backwrap that’s working well. I’d love to try one of the Solar veils! I tried to win one here…but alas, I failed 🙂 I have been wearing my son on my back for several months now. I was afraid to try it till he could sit up, but I know other mother’s who have done it practically from birth. It’ scary at first getting him up there, but after a few times it’s old hat 🙂

You can probably put Ryan on your back now. I started putting M on my back at 8 months, but that’s only because that’s when I got my woven! It looks like you have 2 stretcy wraps… I know the Moby is, and it looks like the Sugar Sweet is too. You should really get a woven wrap for doing back carries. You don’t want Ryan to be able to lean back and fall out – if the wrap is stretchy he MIGHT be able to do this, with a woven – he won’t. *steps off soapbox*
You can put a baby on your back from birth… though I’d suggest waiting at least until they have good head control – maybe even the ability to sit unassited. The hardest part is getting your baby onto your back, but if you want I can make a video with M and show you how I do that, and a few different back carries (my favorite is a rucksack, but I also know how to do a couple others.

I’ve heard that the Bjorn is really not good for spinal development. Serious babywearers are against Bjorns and other “crotch danglers”, especially if the baby is over 15 pounds. You’d have to do further research, but most babywearing websites strongly advise against them. If you’re comfortable with the Bjorn, that’s great. Just want to make sure you have all the facts! With that said, I absolutely love my babyhawk Mei-tei! It is the best purchase I ever made. I hardly ever use a stroller and wear Jack all the time. It’s quick, easy, comfortable, and we both love it. I haven’t tried a back carry with it and I feel like I’d want someone to help me the first couple times. I also have a Beco, which is a soft structured carrier with buckles, and it is also a great carrier. It is super easy to do back carries with and you can do it by yourself. I’ve only tried it at home, but I had no problems at all getting Jack on my back by myself. This will be great when going to the zoo and other such places this summer. As Ryan gets bigger, you probably want to look into a soft structured carrier. The Ergo is another good one that dad’s really like because of the more rugged look. http://www.thebabywearer.com is a great resource with reviews on any and all carriers.
I also want to mention that Jack is now 20 pounds and we are still very comfortable in the mei-tei!

Rene – wow I didn’t know that about the Bjorn!! That’s terrible. I will most definitely look into it! Those soft structured carriers look nice–I guess I didn’t realize their was a difference between those and the Bjorn, but now that you say “crotch danglers,” I see the difference!! Thank you!

I love both of these wraps! I had the Storchenwiege first and used it till my son was a little over a year. I still use it for front wraps, but the never fail has more ‘cush’ to it for long hikes. Though I wasn’t sure about the loops for the legs, and sometimes I’m still not, it does give you a little added security that he won’t wiggle out. I also read posts on the babywearer that this wrap was a great summer wrap and you could wear a second grader in it!!

I had never considered babwearing until you first started talking about it and I too LOVE it! Trayton and I have two currently, a ring sling from Sakura and the Moby. Love both and so does he! I very much appreciate your openness and opinions about the products you review; it better helps me in my research for products!
