Will you be my Valentine?!

I love Valentine’s Day. I know it’s one of the more “minor” holidays without as much hurrah, but I think it’s one of the best! I mean, what’s better than love and showing others how much you love them?! Not to sound all sappy… I just think it’s a day to show your respect for having certain people in your life. I loved it as a kid—my mom always made it a super special day—I loved it with my husband pre-babies, and now I love it with my own kids.

I also still think getting cards in the mail is really exciting! I always buy actual paper cards for special occasions and love when I can just hop online to customize and order them—and even have them mailed directly to the recipient. I’ve ordered from Cardstore before (really cute Christmas cards!) so I headed back to check out the Valentine’s Day cards. I looked at every single card for the husband and it was sooo hard to choose! These were just some of my favorites:

A little story about my husband and I… we met each other our junior year of high school and became friends. In the middle of our senior year, he came over one night and we watched the hilariously stupid movie Zoolander. Then he kissed me for the first time 🙂 So Zoolander is kind of special to us, which is just funny because that movie is so dumb, haha. So I HAD to go with this card and customize it based on Zoolander—a memory from 11 years ago!

I got a card for my kids, too! They have really cute and fun ones. There are some character based cards, animals, dinos, flowers, etc. I wanted to get one card for BOTH kids so while Thomas would be great for Ryan and Elmo would be fun for Rebecca, I went with something they’d both like. These were some favorites:

And this is the one I went with… the kids love seeing photos of themselves so I filled it with their cute little faces 🙂 Then I actually left the signature area blank so that my husband and I can write on it ourselves once it arrives in the mail!

Valentine's Day cards

Valentine’s Day this year falls on a Friday, which is awesome, because that definitely means DATE NIGHT with the husband!!! As long as we find a sitter, of course. But that also means I get all day with my babies. They’ll get a little gift—usually some chocolate and a stuffed animal or fun toy. Then maybe we’ll make cookies together. Last year we made heart-shaped crayons!

What are you plans for Valentine’s Day? Who’s lucky enough in your life to receive a card?

Head over to Cardstore to check out their big selection on Valentine’s Day cards! Order by February 6th to get your card(s) in time for Valentine’s Day! I loved that I could customize the text and choose to add photos. On my husband’s card I made the inside left page blank so I can add my own handwritten note, but I customized the text on the right side. Cardstore makes it all really easy, they’ll address your envelopes, too.

Also, Cardstore reminds us that it’s “okay to cry.” I usually go for the romantic and sappy cards, but I know my husband likes them funny or flirty so I went for that this year—and my handwritten note will be a little sappy 😉 I love when he gets me cards that make me want to cry! Here are some quick tips from Joseph Joyce, the Cardstore.com Creative Director, to create an emotionally charged card: take your time, be yourself, incorporate photography, and personalize.
